What is a coil building tool kit?

A coil building tool kit is a collection of tools for building and installing coils in rebuildable atomizers. A vape coil building kit is essential if you are planning on building for your favorite RDA or RTA.

A typical tool kit comes in a handy carrying case, which includes pockets and dividers for keeping the tools organized and easily accessible.

Essential tools for coil building kits

No matter how compact a coil building tool kit is, there are some tools that absolutely need to be included in it. Unless you already own some of those, make sure you double-check that they are included in the kit you are thinking of purchasing:

  • Ceramic tweezers: these are non-conductive and will allow you to strum your coils when looking for hotspots.
  • Needle-tip tweezers: very helpful for placing your cotton inside the wicking channels or the juice well of your RDA.
  • Flush cutters: the ideal tool for cutting your coil leads flush with the build posts.
  • Coil rods: rods or jigs are very helpful when wrapping your own coils and usually come in a variety of diameters.
  • Scissors: these will be useful for a lot of things, but especially for cutting the tails of your wicks. The smaller size allows for more precise cuts.

    Non-essential tools

The tools in this list are not absolutely needed but might become handy on many occasions when building your favorite rebuildable atomizer. Still, you will find that many coil building kits will include one or more of these:

    • Ohm reader: that’s a good tool to have, but most modern regulated mods would do the trick.
    • Pliers: useful all around but not absolutely needed for coil building; most kits would include them, though.
    • Screwdrivers: most (if not all) rebuildables come with compatible screwdrivers, but larger ones are always good to have.
    • Wire: rarely included in tool kits, but helpful as a backup for when you run out of wire.
