Notable Remarks

The Sweet Shoppe line, sent to me for review, came in a handsome presentation box. All the liquids were 20 mL bottles at 3 mg nic strength. PG/VG ratios weren’t disclosed, but Good Life Vapor uses two ratios, 50/50 or 30/70. These seemed like 30pg/70vg to me, but I can’t swear to that as correct. Each liquid is a golden transparency with a pleasant scent similar to its description.

When I initially sampled The Sweet Shoppe juices immediately after arrival of the package, I felt that they weren’t sufficiently steeped. While the juices were uniformly well-blended, the flavorings hadn’t yet matured into richness. Since the juices were in glass bottles, I removed the glass dripper plastic caps and let them steep uncapped for four days. While I believe they would get better with even longer uncapped steeping, four days produced a marked improvement in depth of flavor. They also became somewhat sweeter, which is a necessity for liquid blends included in a line called Sweet Shoppe.

Our Setup

I sampled the juices in a Magma RDA built with a single 26ga. stainless steel coil with rayon wicking.

Our E-Liquid Review

The Revolution

Good Life Vapor The Sweet Shoppe: The Revolution

Flavor Description

Fresh picked Raspberry blended with rich Cream Cheese over a tasty Powered Doughnut.”

Our Thoughts

I watched a YouTube review of The Revolution where the flavorings were stated to be “strawberry, yogurt, and doughnut.” Nope. It’s raspberry, not strawberry, and cream cheese, not yogurt. This shows how easily flavors can be mistaken, especially if you’re identifying them by the tiny pictures on the bottle. LOL.

The raspberry is a bit more tart than sweet, the cream cheese is smooth but subtle, remaining in the background, and the doughnut adds a pastry note that tastes more like cake to me than classic doughnut. I’ve vaped two or three doughnut liquids — retail and DIY — and my opinion is that the flavoring companies haven’t yet mastered doughnuts.

For me, this juice would be better if the individual flavorings were more distinct and less blended. It’s an appealing combination and a pleasing, tasty vape, but not a juice that I’d reach for on a daily basis.

Lemony Kickit

Flavor Description

Fresh Lemon combined with a tasty Sugar Cookie and topped with delicious Brown Sugar.”

Our Thoughts

The lemon here is nicely tart without being overpowering, while the Sugar Cookie and Brown Sugar soften the lemon, deepen the overall flavor, and add a bakery feel. The fruit and bakery flavors are nicely balanced. The sweetness is somewhat elusive, though, so I don’t think of it as a dessert. To me, this juice resembles a lemon scone — tasty and substantial, but not very sweet.

Dew Scoops

Flavor Description

Sweet Honeydew Melon combined with refreshing Pineapple and blended with the perfect Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.”

Our Thoughts

I’m surprised by the popularity among eliquid retailers for juice blends containing melon or pineapple flavor. Many retailers offer numerous blends containing one or both flavors. While I enjoy both melons and pineapple as food, they don’t thrill me as vaping flavors. GLV has offered them here in a smooth base of the ubiquitous Vanilla Bean Ice Cream that shifts the emphasis from fruitiness to creaminess. As a disclaimer, my brain never identifies the “ice cream” part of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream flavoring in any eliquid, but maybe that’s just me.

Foster the Banana

Flavor Description

Delicious ripe Banana topped with creamy Caramel and blended with perfectly aged Rum.”

Our Thoughts

Of the four Sweet Shoppe juices, this is the one for which my hopes were highest. I’ve been dissatisfied recently with most banana blends I’ve made or tried, not because of the wide divergence of banana flavors — which vary from true, ripe banana to banana candy runts — but rather because the banana never seems strong enough. Not much banana flavoring is needed to make its presence felt, but no matter how much flavoring is used, the banana tends to stay in the background. I hoped that Foster the Banana would lay that problem to rest. Sadly, it didn’t.

Foster the Banana is another blend where the banana gets lost in the mix. In addition, the overall taste is much closer to a Banana Moon Pie than to true Bananas Foster. While vaping it, my brain kept saying, “I want more banana!”

Verdict

Good Life Vapor offers many fine juices. Deadly Sin, Melon Boba, and El Kamino are all longstanding favorites in the vaping community. To my palate, however, these four new juices are not GLV standouts (and I’ve been vaping GLV liquids since late 2012). All four liquids in The Sweet Shoppe are pleasing vapes, but none is spectacular. For eliquids in a line called Sweet Shoppe, they didn’t strike me as particularly sweet. Flavors were well-blended and uniformly tasty, but I didn’t get the “dessert feel” that I expected.

Perhaps I’m wrong (am I getting jaded in my old age?). The never-ending quest for new and unique flavor blends is part of what keeps retail eliquid makers motivated, and I appreciate how difficult that challenge is. Good Life Vapor is a hard-working shop that has steadily expanded their offerings, often with impressive results.

Judging eliquids is notoriously subjective and personal. Other vapers may love these juices. I didn’t. I hoped for at least one great liquid out of the four, but none won a prize from me. They were OK, but nothing special.

My name is Bill. I’ve been a dedicated vaper for five and a half years, having ended a 35-year addiction to tobacco cold-turkey on my first day of vaping. I live on the Oregon coast, in the tiny town of Florence, one huge sand dune away from the Pacific Ocean.
  • It’s a shame you weren’t impressed. The middle two flavors sound like they’d be in my wheelhouse. Am cry.

You’re not alone, Ray. I wanted (and expected) to be impressed, since I have such high regard for Good Life Vapor.

I thought that perhaps these new Sweet Shoppe eliquids blends needed some additional steeping time. I gave them two weeks of further steeping with the dropper caps off (since they came in glass bottles). That improved their overall flavor impact a little, but not as much as I’d hoped, and not enough to change my opinion.

They’re not “bad” juices, by any means, just not outstanding.

  • Bill Herbst

A month has passed since I received the package of four Sweet Shoppe e-liquids for review, and two weeks since my review was posted here on Vaping360.

Conventional vaping wisdom holds that steeping effects are much slower for e-liquids in glass bottles versus the type of plastic bottles that allow some oxygen transfer, so — since these eliquids are in glass bottles with dropper caps — a month may not have been enough time.

Be that as it may, I re-sampled each of the four juices today. My fondest hopes (since I like Good Life Vapor and want to support them) were for a transformation into more and wonderful flavor. Worst case was the possibility of no change at all. My experience today is that the e-liquids were essentially unchanged.

I really want to like these e-liquids, but I’m afraid the judgment from my original review still stands. To my palate, the four Sweet Shoppe offerings are OK, but nothing special. I don’t need ultra bold, in-your-face flavor, but I do expect a little more flavor stimulation than these e-liquids provide. I have no doubt that many Good Life Vapor fans will enjoy them, but they’re not my cup of tea.
