HorizonTech Arctic V8 Mini Intro
Today I am taking a look at the Arctic V8 Mini from HorizonTech! Another sub-ohm tank from Horizon; however, this bad boy uses some pretty awesome coils! Unlike the standard coils you see in most tanks, with this you get a selection of Tiger coils, Snake coils and Hive coils! Let’s see how well they, and this tank, vape!
Like most HorizonTech products the Arctic V8 Mini came in a standard presentation box. Similar to that of the Krixus and other HorizonTech tanks. Nothing really special here, but it does the job well and looks clean.
Design and Aesthetics
I like the design of the Arctic V8 Mini. I think it looks very clean and crisp. A simple but effective style. It comes across that Horizon try to focus more on performance than the styling of their tanks.
I can’t fault the styling although some of you may feel it’s a little too simplistic and would want something extra. There are a few grooves and knurls to give it some shape, but apart from that this a very simple, straightforward looking tank.
Vaping the HorizonTech Arctic Mini V8
For this section I am going to take you through the 3 coils I was sent to test: the Hive coil, the Tiger coil and the Snake coil. Overall the device vapes really well. Plenty of airflow and it doesn’t get too hot a really nice tank to vape.
The Hive Coil
The Hive coil is made from ‘double dual twisted kanthal’ is 0.35Ω and rated between 80-120w.
The coil vapes really nice, quite a warm vape and very flavourful, but I definitely wouldn’t vape this at its recommended wattage. 80w is okay but a very, very warm vape. I much preferred vaping this coil at 60-65w.
The Tiger Coil
The Tiger coil is made from standard kanthal twisted with flattened kanthal, 0.3Ω and rated between 60-80w.
This coil again vapes very well, a cooler vape than the Hive coil and again very flavourful. I think this has the edge when it comes to cloud production too! The wattage range is better for this tank although I wouldn’t go near 80w.
I found that 60-65w was my sweet spot for this coil, at 75w the vape was very warm and the drip tip started getting unbearably hot, especially after consecutive hits.
The Snake Coil
The Snake Coil is made from flattened kanthal twisted around normal kanthal, essentially in a clapton style build. It is a 0.3Ω coil rated between 40-70w.
Whilst the wattage ranges were okay with this coil, I wouldn’t vape quite at 70w. I really liked this coil at 50-55w. The flavour was excellent off this coil, my favourite of the 3 however due to the lower wattage the cloud production wasn’t quite on par with the Hive or Tiger coils.
I like the fact the V8 Mini has different coils than most tanks. Instead of standard coils or clapton coils we have twisted builds, flatwire as well! My personal favourite is the Tiger coil.
The tank is a perfect mix between capacity and compactness. This tank fits well on all my mods and doesn’t make any look stupid, whilst still having a decent capacity for eliquid. It does guzzle liquid though, but I’d rather refill a tank more than have one that’s stupidly big.
Although I like the amount of airflow, I think I would prefer to have 2 larger slots than the 4 smaller slots. I tend to exhale before I inhale when I vape to give the coils time to heat up. When I do this sometimes hot vapour hits my throat because of the quad airflow.
For me, it would be better to have 2 slots either side than the 4 diagonal airflow slots.
The styling is very basic, I think the Arctic V8 Mini could benefit from some more outrageous styling points. Make it the Lamborghini of subtanks to go with the crazy coils!
The Arctic V8 Mini is a fantastic small sub ohm tank. The coils are fantastic, whilst the wattage ranges are a little exaggerated, the coils vape really well! Plenty of flavour as well as good cloud production.
I think this is a great option if you don’t want the aspire Cleito, or another tank that’s on the smaller side.
The tank is a little boring aesthetically but that’s where it ends! Awesome coils, great performance just a tad simple on the styling. I think a bit of crazy styling would fit this tank perfectly but apart from that this is a winner in my books!
I know I got this tank for free, but as RIP Trippers would say, if I lost this tank today would I go out tomorrow and buy one? Hell Yes!
