The Right To Vape Tour rolls on: the final week [update]

The Tour cruised the Pacific coast, crossed the Rockies, traversed the prairies, and tailgated a Packers game. Now it's coming your way!

Have fun -- and save vaping while you're at it!

The Right To Vape Tour is heading down the home stretch, traveling from the Great Lakes to the east coast over the next week. Along the way, they’ll have more rallies and events, encouraging vapers to get involved, and members of Congress to support the Cole-Bishop amendment to defang the FDA’s deeming regulations.

The Cole-Bishop amendment to the House Agriculture Appropriations Bill would change the predicate date in the regulations from 2007 to August 8 of this year. That would allow all current products to remain on the market after the 2018 deadline for submitting costly premarket tobacco applications.

If the language from that amendment doesn’t remain, or make it into the final omnibus spending bill that Congress will pass late this year, the odds of changing the predicate date will be massively stacked against us. Meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking. We have less than two years to prevent the FDA from wiping out the vapor market in the United States.

While the fight goes on, all vapers should be contacting their house representatives and senators to urge them to support Cole-Bishop. Vapers should be encouraging their friends and family to do the same. The August8th.org site makes it simple. It doesn’t take more than a minute.

As the Right To Vape Tour has crossed the country this month, vapers have been meeting, hearing speakers from CASAA, SFATA, and the AVA explain what’s ahead, and getting excited about doing their part to fight back. Some Congressional leaders that support reining in the FDA’s regulatory power have stepped up and spoken out at Right To Vape events too.

California Rep. Duncan Hunter was at the San Diego rally. And Sen. Ron Johnson attended two events in Wisconsin. He spoke at the rally in Hartland, then hung out for the afternoon at the Packers tailgate party in Green Bay last Sunday. Johnson has gone above and beyond for vapers, demanding answers from the FDA and vowing future action in the senate if he’s reelected on November 8.

Be part of the solution

When the history of the fight to save vaping is written, let’s make sure it says that every vaper played a part in keeping safer alternatives available.

This is a struggle to protect life-saving technology from misguided bureaucrats and grandstanding politicians. Vapor products have to remain legal and accessible for all of us who depend of them, but also for the millions who haven’t tried them.

I spend most of my time studying the regulatory, legislative and scientific challenges to vaping, advocating for our right to exist, and talking with others who do the same. Consider me a source for information, and feel free to agree or disagree with anything I say. I love good coffee and sweet Michigan cherries. My childhood hero was Gordie Howe.
