The Azathoth RDA is the latest atomizer from Cthulhu Mod. If you aren’t familiar with Cthulhu Mods, they’re a small Chinese company. They’ve been around for a couple years and they strive to make high-performance gear at affordable prices. Their new RDA is no exception. Nicknamed the Airflow Master, the four-piece Azathoth RDA is 24 mm dripper made of 304 stainless steel with copious air coming from the side and/or bottom, and a well-designed, gold-plated deck that will fit most any multi-strand, large ID coil you put in it. Plus, there is an included bottom-feed pin for all the squonkers out there. Based on the design, it sure looks like it will produce some serious vapor, and with the bottom airflow, flavor should be coming right along with it! Here’s a closer look at even more of what this RDA has to offer.
The 24k gold-plated build deck can work in dual or single coil mode. It’s like the Hop N Vape Rashomon RDA deck having a two-post design, each with four large terminals – and a super deep 8 mm juice well. But Cthulhu added a nifty little feature to their design: small indentations in the base of the posts for trapping single wire as thin as 28 gauge. Most manufacturers forget that people still vape with single-strand wire! Additionally, the Azathoth’s post holes are open-sided, so you won’t have to fish your legs through a hole. Just slide them on in and get to trapping via the flathead grubs.
For the “Airflow Master”, both the adjustable side and bottom airflow holes are cyclops slots. The raised bottom air flow measure 2.5 mm X 7 mm and the side slots are 2 mm X 10 mm. The airflow can be selected in side + bottom for max air, or just from the bottom for flavor chasing. The bottom airflow is closed off horizontally by turning the outer barrel, and the side airflow is adjusted down vertically with a threaded top cap like the Velocity or Digiflavor Lynx. And with the inclusion of the 810 drip tip compatibility (Goon/Kennedy), you can use your favorite tips from two of the most popular cloud/flavor RDAs in the past couple years. If you don’t have those tips, you can just use the 810 ultem tip included, or swap it out for a 510 tip with the adapter.
One of the more understated features I really appreciate seeing is the conical top cap. This was popularized by the original Magma from Paradigm Mods — maybe the first official “flavor RDA” — and it’s often believed to somewhat increase flavor by allowing vapor to smoothly and fully exit the chamber. Since the bottom airflow can be used alone, you should have no problem dialing in the perfect setup for some tasty clouds.
This atomizer has a lot to offer. It checks off virtually all the boxes for an RDA in 2017. It even has a really strange name… but it keeps in line with the literary reference of Cthulhu. Still, I am happy I don’t have to actually speak it as I type! For an RDA with this much to offer, it will come down to the quality of manufacturing. Cthulhu has had its ups and downs with manufacturing, but they appear to be on the right track since their last release with the Gaia RDTA.
The Azathoth RDA is listed at $36.00 and the site says pre-orders ship on the 25th of June. What do you think about this RDA? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
