In this article we add another sub ohm tank review to our sub ohm tank series. We review the Aspire Atlantis Mega, the larger version of Aspire’s new Atlantis 2 sub ohm tank.
The coils in the Mega are the same 100% cotton coils used with the Atlantis 2. However the Mega comes with a 1ohm coil and a 0.3ohm coil as part of the kit, whereas the Atlantis 2 comes with the 0.5ohm and 0.3ohm coils as standard.
We vaped the 1ohm coil using our standard sub ohm e-liquid Miss Samoa by Fa-Q, which is a 75% VG blend. You can get 18% off the delicious Fa-Q (formerly Driptonic) on our Fa-Q coupon code page. The box mod we were using for this review was our trusty Sigelei 150W.
Recommended range for the 1ohm coil: 40-50W
35W: Not much happening here
40W: Nice flavor coming through, but not vapor.
50W: Better flavor and vapor. The flavor to me is a lot nicer than the 0.3 and 0.5ohm coils we tried on the Atlantis 2!
60W: Vaping well even at 60W and I am really liking the flavor on the 1ohm coil, much preferred to the other Aspire coils we tried on the Atlantis 2.
To see the 0.3ohm and 0.5ohm coils in action take a look at our Aspire Atlantis 2 review.
I like the 5ml tank capacity on the Atlantis Mega, as the coils go through e-juice very quickly. If you are a heavy vaper, the Atlantis 2 tank is still a little bit too small in my opinion. The 5ml capacity is therefore a nice improvement. However, I think they could have made the tank less wide and taller and got in even more capacity, like on the Subtank Plus, which has a massive 7ml capacity.
The air flow is slightly different on the Mega, but has four different settings. This allows for plenty of air flow, as on the Atlantis 2. The airflow ring clicks into place and takes a little bit of force to turn.
I really enjoyed the 1ohm coil and found it a lot better for flavor than the other Aspire lower ohm coils. The vapor isn’t as impressive, but we don’t really look for clouds anyway, so this isn’t an issue. I would highly recommend trying the 1ohm coil on either this tank, the Atlantis 2 or the Atlantis 1.
The build quality on the Atlantis Mega, is as on the Atlantis 2, very good. It comes apart easily and there is no leaking at all.
The Atlantis Mega has the same wide bore drip tip with air flow as on the Atlantis 2. I really like this drip tip with the air flow as you can control the temperature of your vapor and it helps keep the vapor cool at higher wattages.
The Atlantis is priced around $45 which is a good $10-15 dollars more expensive than the Atlantis 2 depending on where you get it from. I am not sure the extra 2ml justifies it being this much more expensive.
The Mega is pretty wide, in fact it is the widest sub ohm tank at a massive 30mm! As you can see from the pics it won’t really look great on any box mod as it will always overlap. This doesn’t bother me too much, but it might bother some.
As mentioned above the Mega is very wide. I am also not the biggest fan of the overall aesthetics of the tank and in particular its air flow system. It just doesn’t look that great to me.
The smaller air flow settings whistled quite loudly, which was very annoying. The whistling isn’t present on the widest setting setting, but gets worse the smaller the setting you use. We use the widest setting anyway, so this wasn’t a big deal.
To be perfectly honest I am not really sure why you would. I would have much preferred if Aspire had made the Atlantis 2 a 5ml tank and not even made a Mega. If you really want a new Atlantis with the nice new drip tip (which we really liked) and want that extra juice capacity, you won’t be disappointed with the Mega at all, as it vapes very well. I just don’t think it justifies its price point and think if they were making a Mega they should have made it with a 7ml tank capacity like the Kanger Subtank Plus. It is also horribly wide and I would have preferred it to be taller as opposed to wider.
The 1ohm coil coming as standard was a big plus for me as the flavor on that coil was very good and it will use less juice than the lower ohm coils.
Overall it’s a very well built sub ohm tank that vapes fantastically well, I just don’t quite understand the point of it and think it is a bit of in-between tank, that should have been larger or not have been made at all. We would love to know what you think, so do drop us a comment below!
