What is an e-liquid pen?

E-liquid vape pens are complete vape kits that come in the shape of a pen. In the past they also used to be the size of a pen, but nowadays we see sub ohm tube mods that are significantly larger and have functions similar to those of advanced vape mods.

E-liquid pens differ from pen-style AIOs as they come with detachable vape tanks. Most of the tanks of vape pens can be used with other vape mods, the same way that vape pen batteries can power vape tanks that come with a compatible connection.

Types of e-liquid pens

E-liquid pens come in a plethora of sizes and shapes and have a wide array of features and functions. But the most important characteristic that sets them apart is the way their battery delivers power to the tank.

Regulated
Regulated e-liquid pens will usually come in the shape of a tube and will be larger than other kinds of vape pens. They function the same way as regulated box mods and come with fully capable regulating chipsets. They are often powered by 18650 or even 20700/21700 batteries and are capable of firing at high wattages. Regulated tube mods will usually come bundled with sub ohm tanks.

Direct output
E-liquid pens with a direct output will fire at higher wattages when fully charged and gradually reduce their output as the voltage of the battery drops. They often house built-in batteries, and chipsets that limit their firing range according to the requirements of the tank – usually between 3.3-4.2 volts.

Constant voltage
An e-liquid vape pen that implements a constant voltage output will fire at a set voltage until the battery is drained. This power delivery is sometimes preferred over direct output as it offers a consistent vape throughout. Pens with a constant voltage output will usually come with built-in batteries, with some of them offering several voltage settings to choose from.

How to use an e-liquid pen

Using an e-liquid vape pen is a very simple process. If you are wondering how to fill a vape juice pen, start by checking where the fill ports are positioned. Most newer vape pens will have some form of a top-fill mechanism, but older, bottom-fill products might require removing them from the battery and unscrewing the base first.

Once you have filled the tank with vape juice, make sure you screw it firmly on the battery. Let the wicks saturate for 5-10 minutes before using.

For e-liquid pens without power adjustability, all you need to do is press the button and vape. For regulated tube mods, set the wattage to the lower recommendation of your coils, and raise in 1-watt increments periodically until you reach your desired vape. Make sure you don’t pass the higher recommendation of your coils, as this might vaporize e-liquid to fast and end up producing some nasty dry hits.
