At $35 I think the Eleaf iStick 30W is an absolute bargain. It probably isn’t quite as high quality as the Innokin MVP 3.0, but it is absolutely tiny and works really well. I also like the fact that Eleaf have listened to feedback on the 20W device and have incorporated that into the iStick 30W, which is a much improved device. It’s a really impressive super tiny box mod that has the capability of using the latest sub ohm tanks that everyone is going crazy for.

Sub Ohm Capability and More Power

Vaping360 placeholder image

So I mentioned above that the Eleaf iStick 30W can use the latest sub ohm tanks. The iStick can fire down to 0.4 ohms and all the way up to 5ohm. It also now fires up to 30W which is 10W more than the older 20W model. The iStick 30W will therefore work with almost any tank and will work well for the majority of the sub ohm tanks. If you are looking for a sub ohm tank for the iStick 3W I would recommend the Subtank Mini, Nano, Eleaf Melo, Smoktech VCT or Aspire Atlantis. The Joyetech Delta 2 fires best over 30W so I would opt for the Eleaf iStick 50W if you want that tank. The Artic by Horizon Tech will also need power.

If you don’t want a sub ohm tank I would recommend the Nautilus Mini, Kanger Aerotank or the Eleaf GS Air.

Size and Aestetics

The iStick 30W boasts a lot of improvements over the 20W model, so you would forgive Eleaf if the 30W version was bigger. However they have managed to keep it almost exactly the same size. Check out the pics below to get a feeling for just how tiny it is. It is really good for slipping in your pocket and taking out with you. My brother and I just love its tiny size, which makes it so convenient and great for a little stealth vape!

The one thing that is slightly larger is the top cap which has been extended slightly. They did this so 23mm tanks will sit flush without any overhang. The sub ohm tanks which are mostly 22mm, all fit flush with no overhang.

Overall I think the iStick 30W looks really great. We love our pink colored one and it sits incredibly well in your hand when vaping. I would also recommend getting a silicon sleeve for it, which protects it a bit and improves grip.

Better 510 Pin and Stainless Steel Threading

The pin and threading was one area a lot of people complained about on the 20W model. Eleaf listened and added a nice spring loaded 510 connector, with improved stainless steel threading. The threading is now better quality and we haven’t had any threading issues so far. The spring loaded pin means that fitting any tank onto the device is a piece a cake and all the tanks and clearomizers sit nice and flush!

Improved Buttons and Screen

The buttons seem to rattle less on the 30W than the 20W, which is nice. The screen also now features a wattage lock feature. If you want to lock the wattage or voltage you are vaping at, you can do so by holding down the plus and minus buttons. This means it will lock and you can’t accidently change the wattage or voltage when vaping. The screen also has an improved accelerometer for scrolling up and down between wattages more easily.

To switch between wattage and voltage just click the fire button 3 times. To turn off the device fully hit the fire button 5 times.

USB Pass-through Charging

The iStick 30W can be charged through USB and has a pass through charging technology, which means you can vape whilst charging. My only slight annoyance is that the charging port is on the bottom and not on the side, which means you can’t sit it upright when charging. To charge the device fully it took around 2 and a half hours.

Battery Life

The Li-Po battery is the same power battery as on the 20W device (2200mAh). If you are vaping on and off at a lower wattage, you can expect to get a couple of days’ worth of vaping with one charge. However, if you are sub ohm vaping at 30W on 0.5ohm coils quite heavily, you can get through one battery in 4-5 hours. The battery life should last most vapers a day, but it will depend on your usage.

I would have liked to have seen a slightly more powerful battery that lasts a little bit longer, but it isn’t a deal breaker at all. That would probably be one and only little gripe about the iStick 30W. If you want more battery life then I would consider the Eleaf 50W or the Innokin MVP 3.0.

Verdict

Overall I think the iStick 30W is an extremely affordable, tiny, multi-functional box mod that will be the perfect device for a lot of vapers. It gives you a lot of flexibility with its capability of firing down to 0.4ohm, as well as being a tiny device that looks great, all at a very affordable price.

I think in terms of quality, the iStick 30W seems to be built a lot better than the 20W, but it isn’t by any means a high end device. It still feels a little plasticky and doesn’t have that same solid feel like the Innokin 3.0 has. I have read one or two people saying that they have had some electrical issues, such as the iStick not holding its charge after a couple of weeks , which would indicate to me that it won’t be the kind of device that will last a very long time and that can be thrown around. But at its price point and for what it does, I am not expecting it to last forever. Nothing really compares to the iStick 30W in terms of size at the moment apart from maybe the Cloupor Mini, which really makes it a stand out device. We have been using it for 2 weeks now on different sub ohm tanks and we haven’t has a single issue, and my brother and I both absolutely love it!

If you want a tiny sized box mod capable of 30W and of firing down to 0.4ohm at an amazing price, then the Eleaf iStick 30W is a fantastic choice. The iStick 30W is a fantastic choice for all levels of vapers, from beginners to those who sub ohm vape. If you want more power take a look at the iStick 50W.
