HCigar VT inbox DNA75 Review

I am a squonker.

It’s bad. I do probably 90% of my vaping on various mechanical squonk boxes, like Reos, Coppervape, and Tmods. None of my stuff is particularly unique, boutique, or spectacular, but I have found what works for me.

Asking me to review the new HCigar VT inbox is like dangling a baggie in front of a street addict. I’m all in. Especially when you consider that I have never owned or used a regulated squonker.

The VT inbox from HCigar is stout little single battery squonk box powered by the Evolv DNA75 chip. The VT inbox is more square than rectangular, with replaceable magnetic side panels that are available in an array of colors and textures including carbon fiber, wood, and others.

The kit includes a stainless steel Maze V2 RDA, with a hinged top cap, along with some other nice goodies that we’ll explore later.

Opening the box, I immediately noticed that the VT inbox Kit includes a Maze V2 RDA. The Maze was specifically designed with a hinged top cap to make dripping easier. It seems like a strange choice to include it in a bottom feed kit that would never be used for dripping. Hmmm…

Digging further into the box, I find a replacement cap for the Maze—it looks like frosted ultem but might just be amber colored plastic. Regardless, it is shorter and lighter, with a wide-bore opening; a perfect replacement for the hinged top cap. I expect that the reduced chamber size with the plastic cap will also deliver better flavor, and it looks way better.

My review sample came with rainbow colored side panels. Popping off the panels you see the juice bottle and battery on one side. Looking from the opposite side there is a cutout that you use to push out the battery – not a big deal, but a nice thoughtful design touch.

I want to note here that the battery-side panel on my sample moved and rattled a bit during use, as though the panel itself was warped. Not by a lot, but enough to be noticeable, especially to the OCD among us.

So, yeah, I grabbed that plastic top cap and built the Maze using 316SS wire. The dual 2.5 mm coils came in at 0.23-ohm. I used stainless steel wire knowing that the DNA75 chip will allow me to run it in TC or VW, so I can switch between modes without rebuilding the RDA. Nice.

Filling and installing the 8-milliliter bottle is simple, with no threading required. Just angle the bottle towards you and pull it off the tube. It’s snug friction-fit that you reverse to install.

The first thing to note is that the squonk action is good with the Maze. The RDA deck filled easily when I squeezed the juice bottle, and drained completely when released.

I set the mod to the preset SS profile and took a vape. It was a bit cool at 450℉ so I upped the temp and continued. The vape was satisfying with a touch of warmth, and the TC performed as expected.

Moving on, I set the mod to VW with the same build and adjusted the wattage to 30 watts, which was just about perfect for me—nice vapor and flavor with a bit of warmth. The Maze RDA with the plastic replacement cap was great, providing good flavor and never heating up.

I’ve been wanting to try a regulated squonk mod for some time, and often drool at the squonk porn threads with $500 carbon fiber boxes that I simply cannot justify. All of which makes the VT inbox perfect for someone like me: a confessed squonker that wants to try a regulated mod without breaking the bank.

The VT inbox fills the bill completely. With the solid and flexible Evolv DNA75 chip it delivers dependable performance that can be as simple or complex as you wish. You can use it straight out of the box with one of the preset TC profiles provided, or delve into the Escribe software and tweak until your heart’s content. Or just go straight VW if you prefer.

It’s also nice that the output of the mod is constant throughout the life of the battery. With my mech squonkers (as with any mech) the quality and intensity of the vape diminishes as the battery is depleted. I like the consistency of the VT inbox.

The fit, finish, and form factor of the VT inbox are all very nice (aside from that minor door movement). The mod has a nice heft without feeling burdensome. It fits easily inside a pocket, purse, or pack.

So here’s what we’ve got: Evolv DNA75, regulated squonker, Maze single/dual coil dripper with two cap options, replaceable side panels, all stuff normally reserved for high-end boutique squonk boxes.

When you add it all up, the VT inbox is a heck of a nice kit at the sub $100 price point.
