DNA 200 Box Mods – Find the Best DNA 200 Box Mod for You

With the recent release of the much anticipated DNA 200 chipset by Evolv, there has been a flurry of box mods released using this high powered temperature control chip. We summarize some of the best features on each of the DNA200 box mods that have already been announced and are on the market. Hopefully this guide will help you make an informed decision to make sure you buy the best DNA 200 mod, before rushing into purchasing the first DNA 200 box you see!

As these box mods are all using the same DNA200 chip, the deciding factors will be the price, aesthetics and battery capacity. The majority of the DNA 200 box mods will use Lipo batteries with only one or two using 18650s. The average price for the majority of the DNA 200 box mods seems to be around the $200 mark.

We will be reviewing some of the DNA 200 mods over the next few months, so stay tuned for those reviews!

Volcano Lavabox

Volcano Lavabox
Volcano Lavabox

Price: $169.99
Wattage: 200W
Battery: 900mAh /1300mAh

The Lavabox is my personal favorite based on its price and looks and to date the best selling DNA200 device on the market. The Volcano Lavabox features a black rubber grip on the back, which can be removed and replaced with other colors to suit your style. The Volcano is also set to retail at a very reasonable $169.99 and looks pretty sleek to me. It reminds me of an Alien Ware PC in terms of styling, so it might not appeal to everyone, but I certainly like its looks! For those wanting more battery life from their Lavabox, Volcano now offer a 1300mAh battery extender.

Wismec Reuleaux

Origin Vape Wismec-JayBo Reuleaux DNA-200

Price: $160-180
Wattage: 200W
Battery: 3 x 18650

The Wismec Reuleaux is designed by Jay Bo and made by Wismec, the sister company of Joyetech. The Reuleaux is a beautifully crafted and designed mod. The Reuleaux’s unique feature is that is powered by 3 18650 batteries instead of the more conventional Lipo approach taken by the majority of other makers so far. This will mean you can swap out batteries if you are running low instead of having to wait hours for your Lipo to re-charge. How exactly those 18650s perform against the Lipo I don’t know. Hopefully we can get one for review soon to see how it vapes!

Vaporshark DNA200

Vaporshark DNA200
Vaporshark DNA200

Price: $199.99
Wattage: 200W
Battery: 900mAh LiPo

The Vaporshark DNA200 is similar in looks to the previous rDNA40 mod. It features the OLED screen on the bottom of the mod just like on the rDNA40. The Vaporshark DNA200 will be priced at $199.99 and feature a 3 cell 900mAh battery.

The Vaporshark DNA200 features 2A zip charging, which means the battery will re-charge in 90 minutes, which is quicker than the other DNA 200s. Apparently the paint job on the DNA200 is much improved over the flaky rDNA40 one, which had a tendency to chip easily.

MAh does not change when the cells are wired in series. Like you mentioned for the VT box 200. When batteries are wired in series, the voltage goes up. When wired in parallel, the MAh goes up, along with the max current capability of the pack.

  • Vshinoda

I am still quite confused about the battery life. On statistics that the 3s lipos will always have a lesser number in mah comparing to a pair of 25rs. But what I am not understanding is that would the 3s lipo lasts a lot longer even though it has a lot less on the numbers for mah? Please and thank you!

    • Vshinoda, I am no expert on Lipos. We have a battery expert who will be writing an article on the Lipos in the DNA 200s soon!

    • Forkbomb

That’s because mAh ratings are taken at the batteries discharge voltage. A 3S battery is three times the discharge voltage of an 18650.

Instead you need to look at watt hour ratings, which is the same as mAh rating times it’s discharge voltage. a 2000mAh 18650 has 7.4Wh, where a 950mAh 3S has 10.545Wh

    • bryan

with a 2500mah 18650 you get 18 minutes of continues vaping and with the 900mah 3 cell li po you get 23 minutes continues vaping

  • CranmCorpsChemicals

Thank you for the review I shared it on reddit. The
electronic_cigarette community really enjoyed it. Can we look forward
to in depth reviews of each unit?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/electronic_cigarette/comments/3l3q76/dna_200_box_mods_a_summary_of_all_the_dna_200_mods/

    Thanks Jeremy

    • Hi Jeremy,
I saw the post on Reddit! Thanks very much for sharing that and glad people enjoyed it. I have been updating the article as I find more DNA 200s, but they are popping up all over the place!

We have reviews planned for the following: Vaporshark, Hotcig, Cigreen, Lavabox, Efusion and VT200 so far. We will first do a complete breakdown of the DNA 200 chip itself and also a breakdown of the Lipo used in the Vaporshark and how these Lipos in the DNA 200s stack up against 18650s.

After those two pieces the reviews will follow as quickly as our team can do them! I am hoping to get hold of a Whiteout as well, but it seems as though they are having some minor delays at the moment.

Thanks for the share and if you find any devices we have missed, let me know!

      Best regards
      Chris

  • Andrew Moroz

You can add Che Customs’ Dark Tower to this parade: http://checustoms.com/dark-tower-200w-dna200-box-mod/

    • Will do thanks for the heads up Andrew! I’ll be doing an update this week at some point. Thanks.

  • Dong Magnum

ha, i believe you may have borrowed from my thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/electronic_cigarette/comments/3hsw4w/list_of_dna200_mods/

    • Hi Dong. Fantastic list you have there! A much better quick overview of the DNA200 mods at a glance. I did cast an eye on your very original list to help get an idea for which mods were out there at the time. I then got in contact with the manufacturers to ask for some more info. However, I haven’t actually checked back since (should have though). It seems like you are much more up-to-date on the DNA 200s than I am, good job! I’ve been ill for the past two weeks and it seems like a whole heap of new ones have come out in the time I have been away.

I will add a link to your thread at the bottom of the article, as most likely your list will be more updated than mine. It takes some time for me to contact the manufacturers to ask for info on the devices before writing a little blurb on each, so I am always lagging a little behind. Hopefully we will be able to get some reviews up soon for some of these good looking devices!

      Best regards
      Chris

LAVABOX DNA 200 NEVER NEVER AGAIN!!!

Purchased this device from official website for $169.99.
Received a used item with scratches all over the screen and a small dent on it.
Contacted volcanoecigs.com and explained them the situation.

Here is the response: Once you receive a prepaid label (usps
first class), you must send the defective product back within 3 business days
of receipt. The prepaid label will be void after 3 business days and we will be
unable to process this RMA. You must
send in your defective item prior to a replacement being send to you (why I
have to suffer from your mistake???)

Once we have received and tested your defective item we will
notify you with the outcome. If the item has been found to indeed be defective
after testing and meets the warranty terms, you will then be sent a replacement
at that time. (IF the item IF REALLY???)

Once we have received and tested your defective item we will
notify you of the outcome and if a
replacement has been sent, a tracking number will be included. (IF A
    REPLACEMENT IF???)

WTF I PAID $170 for the new device and they send me
scratched device with a dent. So now I have to send it back via usps first
class (3-5days) and wait for their decision (who knows how long a day a week a
month) and after that I MIGHT get or MIGHT not get a replacement. So I have to
go through all that for my own money because they fact up. What a nice way to
    treat their customers.

I was so excited about getting this new mod but now nothing
    except frustration.

    • Sean Wilkie

Of course they need to see that it actually is messed up. They aren’t just gonna let you claim it is, send you a new one, and now you have two. That’s how replacing things online works dude.

      • BlaDe

Well not really, amazon for example would send me a new device and I would have about a week or two to return the defect one. If I will not return it in time they charge my credit card for both devices. BUT volcanoecigs BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY MAYBE SEND ME A NEW ONE, MAYBE NOT IT DEPENDS. So after receiving it they can say you are not eligible for the replacement, and can force me to pay for shipping or even send me used device again. It is not costumer fault that they messed up quality control. I could send them pictures as a proof.

    • Arthur Gepner

I had the exact same thing with Vaporshark except it wasn’t a used device they sent me but one where the wattage up button wouldn’t work. I also had to send a video to “prove” that the button wasn’t working. They had the audacity to say they actually QC theirs before they send to a customer. QC doesn’t miss thing like that, plus a company that does QC has the QC sticker included with who Qc’d

    • VapeHwg

I just bought the LavaBov Bloox Rec Limeted addition mod. Have not received it yet! You nightmare makes me nervous!!!

  • Vaping247

Not a big fan of DNA. 1st off people make it sound like they are a quality item and that’s what you are paying that high price for. The devices have as many issues as any other item. Why on earth would you pay $200 for the so called hype? I just bought a Koopor Plus that is made well. It does 200w and TC nickel titanium and ss. It’s $50. I vaped in nickel mode and ran the same tank on a DNA 200. No difference. It’s just hype created by fools to make it seem like it’s prestigious or a high end item. It’s not. They just took your hard earned money. If it wasn’t for China non of us would be vaping and we certainly wouldn’t be able to afford to either. The Wismec ReuLeaux needs triple 18650s to power up the DNA 200 which normally uses Lipos. The same ReuLeaux with the Joyetech chip called the RX200 costs have as much and does more. I do not follow hype. I am not a sheep. I draw my own conclusions and use my brain. Be smart and just by the lower priced more capable item.

    • Chris

I’m glad that you’re happy with your Kooper Plus, I love my DNA 200 so much that I’m going to shell out another 200 bucks for another. It’s nice to not base my buying decisions on price.

    • Danfromouteast

Thanks you may have saved me money Vaping247. I also just purchased the wisemec with the joyetech chip that pretty much do s what the DNA200 does BUT it was, with shipping only $58!!!

    • BillW50

I never owned a Evolv mod in my life. I always purchased DNA clones instead. I was quite happy with them. Then I purchased two Reuleaux RX200. And are they horrible! My black one the paint chips off like crazy. They don’t even do SS TC correctly and sometimes won’t fire at all. They drain the batteries just sitting there doing nothing. Has overheating issues and you have to hit the button presses with perfect timing to access anything. And Vaping247 claims it is the same as a DNA200 and does more is complete bull! It isn’t even close!

So being totally discouraged with my two RX200 (and hearing more horrible stories from others about their RX200), I purchased my first Evolv product, the Reuleaux DNA200. Oh man! What a difference. This thing actually works! And it has built in calibration hardware inside. You can calibrate the battery capacity, internal mod resistance, thermal characteristics, watt hours used per puff, USB charging current, USB voltage, individual cell voltages (accurately vs. the RX200 horrible accuracy), amp draw, live resistance, and tons more stuff you can do. The RX200 may look like a Reuleaux DNA200, but it isn’t even close to the DNA200 abilities. I loved my first Reuleaux DNA200 so much, I bought a second one. And I’ll probably get a third one here soon. No more buying crappy China chips for me.

Madvapes has their own dna 200 out. Also seen a tuglyfe dna 200. Look like solid devices. Look forward to them being reviewed on here

Personally I own many vv/vw mods. starting out with the vamos, I have 3 versions of it. For it’s abilities and price point it is good for what they are. Next up are two 30W hanas. Couldn’t stand them. But I do still own them. Next up is the ipv 3s (I have two of these) upgraded. I had used one of them so much, that I ended up having to put another 510 into it, but it’s still going strong. Next up, I have the Sigelei 150 Special. Again a good mod, but not as good as the IPV3 in my opinion for various reasons. Next I purchased the IPV 4. Again another good mod from that china company known as Pioneer4you. Next I purchased the IPV3 LI. By far to me, the best all around mod I owned to that point, Even better than the next oneI bought, which was the Snow wolf. My two recent purchases of mods, both have the evolve DNA 200 chip in them. First one and the one I’ve got more experience with to this date, is the Hcigar VT200 and more recently I purchased the Wismec Reuleaux. I had to exchange my first Hcigar Vt200 for another, as it just out right went belly up after 3 weeks of using it as my go to mod. As most point out, while it is advertised as having a 1300mAh lipo, the reality is that it only puts out 1000mAh. Right now, as I sit and type this and after having just done a battery test using the Escripe Battery analyzer, with a 20 ga. 317L ss .2ohm loop at 40w on a Mephisto RDA, I’m getting a reading of 10.95Wh which equated to 986.49mAh. A far cry from the 1300 advertised. I suspect all the new mods using lipos are this way. However despite that, the mod is a good mod, just don’t expect an all day chain vape mod out of it. This is why I purchased the Wismec Reuleaux hoping that with the replaceable 3 18650s that I can get a whole day out of it without having to wait 3 hours for a charge like I do on Vt200. However right now, I can’t comment on it too much, as I’ve not yet had time to put it through any paces very much. But I’m hopeful. The Evolv dna 200 chip itself is worth having. It is a good chip and better than many others. I have a chip on the way and am going to build my own mod for my next dna 200. The chip isn’t the big problem. The battery capacity due to mod size is a problem for most of the new mods using the chip. This doesn’t mean the mods are necessarily bad or even all are overpriced. It simply means there is plenty of room for improvement. Lets see if any manufacturers pick up on some improvements in the new year coming. For those they don’t try to improve! I too will be a hater of those companies like vaping247 seems to be about the whole of the DNA. But it’s not the chip I’ll go after like Vaping247 did. It will be the manufacturer. The chip itself retails for between 65 to 90 usd depending on who you get it from. Add to that, a battery, labor for doing the build of a mod and all the other people hired to design a box and machine it. I’d say most price points for the new DNA 200 mods are fairly reasonable.

    • That was a great read, thanks for sharing your experience!

Tcmokc I don’t have much experience with the lipo batteries. Seems you do, what’s your opinion on the vapor shark? I just recently purchased the wisemec with the other 200watt chip, I think it’s a joyetech chip. Before I purchase a lipo one I figure I’d ask before shelling out that much cash

Hello, I just bought Phyer DNA 200 on Tuesday but noticed that the battery isn’t getting fully charged even though I’ve been charging it for over 2 hours. So I called the seller and told me to change battery wattage and etc. but it is still the same, the battery would not charge all the way to the top… can someone help me, please? Thank you very much and I’ll be waiting for your reply…

Why can’t I buy a decent DNA box anymore? It seems like most of these products are one and done production runs.
