Hotcig DX200 Intro
Today I will be reviewing the brand new DNA200 mod from Hotcig who are out of China. This device has a lot to offer and is certainly a mod to consider if you are looking into getting a DNA200 mod. Below I take a closer look at the DX200 by Hotcig.
I won’t be going into much detail on the DNA 200 chip, as hopefully we will be featuring a full breakdown of the chip and it’s capabilities on the site soon.
Hotcig DX200 Specs and Features
- 1 x DX200 mod
- 1 x 3-lipo pack built in battery
- 1 x USB cable
- 1 x RC battery charger
- 1 x gift wood box
- 1 x handbag
- 1 x specification and card
The packaging of the DX200 was amazing! A really lovely wooden styled presentation box with some artificial straw to cushion the mod during transit. I was really impressed with the quality of the packaging.
Using the Hotcig DX200
The Hotcig DX200 is really easy to use thanks to the amazing DNA200 chip inside it. I wont be going into much detail about the chip itself as we have a special in depth look at it coming soon, so be sure to check that out! As for the mod it’s fantastically easy to use. It splits into 2 components. 1 that houses the lipo battery and 1, which holds the chip, 510, fire button and wattage adjustment buttons.
The buttons are really nice and clicky and have a quality feel to them. I’m glad Hotcig went with a slightly smaller fire button than other manufacturers. I find the likes of Sigelei use massive fire buttons that just feels too big and clunky but Hotcig have done a great job and everything feels a great size and has an air of quality about it. One thing I would like to see added is plus and minus signs on the adjustment buttons. Unfortunately I found myself all too often trying to increase the wattage and accidentally decreasing it.
The quality of the device was something that really impressed me! Being out of China I was expecting this device to work well but maybe be lacking on the finishing touches, which make the difference between a good, and a great mod. However Hotcig have outdone themselves here with the DX200! The finish on the mod is fantastic, very similar to that of a vaporshark with the matted finish and slightly rubberised feel to it. I’m also glad they didn’t plaster their logo all over the mod and just had Hotcig on one side. This gives the DX200 a more professional and sleek look in my opinion. The mod holds together really nicely, unlike other multi compartment mods such as the Hana One Modz.
This device worked flawlessly in temperature control mode, as you would expect from any mod housing the DNA200 board. One feature I love about the board is the preheat function. No more waiting for your coils to get up to temperature, with this feature your coils are instantly at the temperature you set! This device has really got me thinking about getting into temperature control. After a lot of scepticism I may have finally been swayed!
One thing I was left slightly disappointed by was the battery used in the DX200. To keep the device small and compact a 900mah 3s lipo pack was used. This is on the smaller side compared to other DNA200 mods, with others using lipo packs in excess of 1800 mah. Unfortunately I felt this was not enough for a mod capable of 200 watts. I was able to get a day of vaping at around 70-80 watts but going over 100 watts really affected my battery life. On top of this the RC charger that comes with the device came with an American plug so I was unable to use this and had to use the micro USB charging port instead. Seeing as the battery compartment is detachable I would like to see Hotcig bring out other battery compartments with larger mah ratings so we as users can decide if we want a stealth vape, or sacrifice the small size for extra battery life.
The compact size is a great feature, the mod fits perfectly in the hand and feels really comfortable when vaping on it. It’s also not too heavy either which is an added bonus!
The DX200 looks and feels great; I honestly think in a blind test you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and some of the so-called ‘premium’ brands such as Hana and Vaporshark.
The DNA200 board is easily the best chip on the market right now and to have a device incorporating that chip is fantastic, works flawlessly with beautiful temperature control and some fantastic additional features like custom screens when you connect to escribe.
Price vs. Quality
For the price, this devices just radiates quality! This is definitely one of the best value for money DNA200 mods around right now. I haven’t been able to fault it and every time I pick it up I feel like I’m holding a top end mod like a Vaporshark, Hotcig have done a great job with this device.
The battery life is just too small in my opinion! I’m really hoping Hotcig address this and add a new battery pack maybe with a 1200 or 1600 mah 3s lipo pack. That would be amazing.
No UK Plug
I know it’s small and wont affect you in the US but I would have liked to have been able to use the external charger that came with the device to see the differences in charge time! Plus I don’t always have a micro USB lead to hand so I can be left scrabbling around to find one before my mod runs out of battery!
No Signs on the Adjustment Buttons
I would have liked to see plus and minus signs either on the buttons or next to them. This would make it a lot clearer and easier when it came to adjusting the wattage/temperature on the device.
In summary then, this device is a standout mod in my opinion! You can see and feel the quality and it definitely seems like Hotcig took their time in designing and manufacturing this mod. I would recommend this mod to anyone who is looking for a DNA 200 mod. The battery life is a slight issue but only a slight one and as long as your not hard core vaping at 200 watts all the time you’ll find you can get a good day out of it. If you’re looking for a DNA200 mod and are not sure which one to go for, definitely put this one in your basket! You wont be disappointed!
