The Company You Know…and Don’t

At the recent TPE 2016 trade show, I spent some time playing with the Laisimo L1 vaping box mod. While the brand might not be familiar to some vapers, chances are that most of you are familiar with a vaping device that Laisimo has worked on. The company has been an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for better known companies like Asmodus and Sigelei. I’m certain that most of you have heard of the Asmodus Snow Wolf, but how many of you know that the popular lupine box mod was the result of a collaboration with Laisimo?

The company hopes to make a bigger name for itself in the near future and the Laisimo L1 is the first step in that direction. While it doesn’t have some modern features out of the box, the Laisimo L1 has a pair of features that help it stand out — a 2.4-inch color screen and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Specs-Tacular Section

Let’s get the specs and stats out of the way. The Laisimo L1 is a 200 watt box mod that runs on two 18650 batteries. Its wattage range is 5-200, while its voltage range is 0.5-7.5. It will work with atomizers in the 0.05- to 2.5-ohm range. Out of the box (more on this later), it’s capable of temperature control with nickel, titanium, and stainless steel wire. Naturally, it will work in wattage mode with all popular wire materials.

Sporting a 2.4-inch screen makes this mod larger than many 2016 dual-battery box-mods. The Laisimo L1’s dimensions are 101 x 53 x 24.5mm. And before you chastise me for mixing imperial (dumb) and metric (superior) measurements, these stats are the official ones used by Laisimo. And (double), just to show you that I’m not a complete moron (only partial), 2.4 inches is roughly 61mm (I think).

The Laisimo L1 is available in black, red, and white. While all three versions look good, I was particular smitten with the white model. As Chris Rock says, “It’s all right, because it’s all white!”

The Stand-Out Features

The most obviously outstanding feature of the Laisimo L1 is its 2.4-inch screen. While the vast majority of vaping devices on the market use monochromatic displays that are diminutive, the company opted to go with a large, color display. Considering how uncommon ample color screens are in vaping, it’s fun to play around with the Laisimo L1’s UI…even if you don’t need to.

Certainly the display look primitive compared to that of an Apple iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy, but in the context of vaping box mods, it’s quite lovely. I’ve only played with a handful of vaping devices with screens this size and it was fun using them all, simply because the display made me happy. I’m sure that novelty will wear out soon, but for the immediate future, I know that I must have a vaping device with a large, color screen soon. (And yes, I know it’s a silly reason to want another vaping device, but I’m a lifelong tech nerd, so….)

The other interesting aspect of the Laisimo L1 is its Bluetooth connectivity. Vapers are able to download a companion app for this box mod on their Android or iOS devices. From there, the box mod can be controlled and monitored using the app.

Lastly, vapers will be able to upload custom wallpapers from their computer to the Laisimo L1. It’s a nonessential feature, for sure, but raise your hand if you use a custom wallpaper on your phone. (Now put your hands down. I can’t actually see you.)

The Missing Features

While it’s great that the Laisimo L1 is capable of temperature control with nickel, titanium, and stainless steel wire, I was disappointed that it lacks TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance) and TFR (temperature factor of resistance) modes. Certainly most vapers will be happy with the Laisimo L1’s functionality out of the box, but I believe it’s important for flagship devices to have modern features features like TCR and TFR in order to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Hopefully the company can add TCR and TFR modes through firmware updates. From what I understand of the mod’s chip, it should be capable of handling these modes. It’s just a matter of adding them to the UI and making them easily usable.

The Laisimo L1 is a handsome box mod that packs a couple of features most of its competitors lack. Having said that, I don’t know how many vapers will be attracted to a large, color display and Bluetooth connectivity. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Laisimo L1 in the comments section.

I have been going back and forth between the Sigelei 150w touch screen and this lovely Laisimo l1. After watching and reading hours of reviews I’ve been won over greatly by the Laisimo and am making the purchase first thing payday. This article helped me finalize my decision so thank you! ?

    • Thanks for reading, John! If possible, try to get your hands on both at a store. While the L1 definitely has some cool features, it also has some things that could bother you. The buttons, for example, aren’t the best. Since this was a preview and not a review, I didn’t touch on that. Also, I kind of have a soft spot in my heart for the pink Sigelei Touch. 🙂

I bought a white Laisimo L1 about 3 months ago and an Atlantis v2 tank. 1 1/2 months ago I dropped it in the toilet it took me a minute to realize what happened when I did I looked down the back cover had popped off batteries were still. I pick it up it was auto firing couldn’t turn it off the ribbon to remove the batteries ripped off. I used the back door to pop the batteries out. I left it open and dry out for a few days. I noticed there was sill a bit of moisture and water trapped in between the screen and glass. Once that dried about 5 days I put a pair of batteries in then the logo started to display screen looked pretty messed up contrast color etc tried to power on nothing never got the logo back up either. Brought it to work took it apart it still had a bit of water and moisture I manually dried every single piece of it and cleaned all areas of the screen so that it wouldn’t have any dust or debris. Put batteries in no logo no power. Continued to have hope for another week gave up through it in my laptop backpack bought another cheaper box month goes by. I notice it in my bag figured I’d throw it on eBay for a few dollars but first one last try. Put the batteries in got the logo. 5 clicks on fire button powered on. Put my tank on it fired right up back to vaping. The screen flawless. Yeah I know long story could’ve said everything with a lot less words. Just thought it was pretty interesting. It wasn’t just splashed it was submerged in the toilet on while I found something to get it out with. Had no signs of life for weeks. Last time I saw the screen on it was all messed up then it just went back to normal? Sorry it’s just crazy don’t get me wrong I’m glad to have it back. Oh yeah well the end. ✌? 😉

    • That’s crazy! Next time, do the rice trick. That’s the easiest way to salvage submerged electronics.
