The VOOPOO ARGUS G2 is the sequel to one of the best pod vapes of 2023. It houses a 1000 mAh battery, features a large color screen, and is compatible with all the pods of the ARGUS line. The device offers adjustable airflow and wattage and can be fully charged in 30 minutes. Available in eight color options.

Product intro and specs

The ARGUS G2 is one of VOOPOO's latest pod systems, coming out at the same time as the ARGUS P2, which I reviewed recently. VOOPOO has really done a great job with the ARGUS line of pods, making a lot of good systems with nice features and cross-compatible coils. They are typically a safe bet to buy, but we’ll see if the G2 holds up to its namesake.

While the P2 is square-shaped, the G2 comes in the traditional stick shape. The device houses an internal battery listed at 1000 mAh, and the package includes the newer pods with the larger 3 mL capacity. There are still the 2 mL versions available sold separately. Like the P2, the G2 is made for MTL or restricted DL vaping with the included coils.

Build quality and design

The biggest difference between the ARGUS G2 and the P2 is their shape. But while the layout of the G2 may be old school, the overall design is far from it. The large 0.96-inch crisp color screen equipped with LEDs takes up a lot of real estate on the front of the device and makes it feel more like a fully-fledged mod than a pod device.

The G2 is a bit more feature-rich than a basic pod. The right side offers an air adjustment slider to fine-tune your vape, while the left side has the USB-C charging port and the single button which operates the device. The screen gives you all the info you could possibly need. The power setting (in watts,) a puff counter, coil resistance, the battery percentage, and which mode you are in. Each mode has a different theme/animation for the screen. Super has a UFO with a blue theme, Smart has flames with a red theme, and Eco has a green theme which kinda looks like fruit in water being sucked into a straw, I guess?

They offer a total of eight colors. The aurora purple has a color fade design, while the rest are solid colors. Also, same as in the P2, the “ARGUS” logo is metallic and comes in different colors. They have back panel designs as well. I got the space gray one which looks great with a shiny finish, and the back panel is a checkered spiral design that starts black and fades to a light gray. It looks pretty cool when light is reflected off it. The finish is great and shows no sign of wear or chipping. Overall, the design is simple, with a great color screen and some nice features.

Getting started

The ARGUS G2 is an intermediate pod system, since you do have to set your wattage and it does have some features to it. It’s not going to be as simple as an auto-draw vape with no settings, but it’s simple enough for most people to use pretty easily. The G2 is mainly an MTL vape, but it can be used with the 0.4-ohm coil to do a restricted DL vape at low wattage (under 30.) The G2’s button is an “everything” button, and unlike the P2 button, it also fires. I prefer auto-draw pods where you don’t have to worry about pocket misfires, but it’s not a major deal.

Two clicks will bring up a menu that lets you change the mode between Smart, Super, and Eco. Click the button to cycle to the one you want, then hold it to confirm. Super is like a hard preheat, Smart is normal, and Eco is low. I know companies like to have fancy modes to stand out, but I do prefer when they are aptly named and consistent to make it easier for the end users. Still, it's easy to figure out.

Five clicks will take you to a menu that allows you to power off the device, reset the puff counter, lock the device, and turn the LED lights on or off. There are no LED modes that match the vaping mode; it’s only on or off. To adjust the wattage, it’s four clicks. Then you can tap or hold the button to adjust (it goes up until it reaches max and then round-robbins.) Once the wattage is where you want it, just let go of the button, wait a few seconds, and it’ll lock it in. Overall, it’s pretty easy to use but a little more in-depth than a simple pod system.

As for the pods, the only difference with the P2 is that the G2 comes with the 3 mL versions. They are side-fill pods (although labeled as “top fill” by VOOPOO,) and a bit too tinted for my liking. But overall, I'm very happy with the usage of the device.

Performance

The big draw with the pods of the G2 and the P2 is that their updated “top-fill” versions vape better and last longer than the original bottom-fill pods of older ARGUS models. They are leak resistant as well, according to VOOPOO. I rarely (if ever) have leak issues on any device, and I had zero leak issues on this as well.

The draw can be adjusted via the air slider on the right of the device, and it goes from a restricted DL down to a solid MTL vape. I like these coils as a loose MTL, so about halfway on the slider at up to 20 on Smart/Eco modes.

The 3 mL pods perform identically to the 2 mL pods that came with the ARGUS P2, so you can find more info in the performance section of my P2 review. But to sum it up, the new pods are great, last long, and the device performs at a very high level overall.

Battery life and charging

Battery life on the G2, like all devices, will vary based on your vaping habits. So, while this one is advertised as lasting three days, that’s probably for light vapers. I’ll never get three days on any device because I vape too much. I just focus on the battery capacity and how fast it charges.

The internal battery is listed at 1000 mAh, so its capacity is slightly lower than on the P2. They list the charge rate at 5V/2A (both listed on their site, which is great,) and the port is USB-C located on the left side.

When I see specs like this, I expect at least a capacity of 800 mAh and a charge rate of 1.6A, as most companies round up, and usable mAh usually is about 20% less than listed. So, to be fair to everyone, I'll only ding companies for being worse than expectations.

I tested all this and for the max charge rate I got 1.92A, so great job there. The charging time is about 30 minutes, so it charges pretty fast. Most pods charge in 30-60 minutes, and the G2 is on the better side of that range. Battery capacity tested out at around 850 mAh usable. That fits into my expectations, so no complaints there.

It does have passthrough vaping, and I'm glad they added this feature to the recent devices after not having it in a few of their previous ones. All devices should have that these days. Overall, very happy with the charging and battery specs.

Verdict

Overall, the G2 is an excellent pod system. I lean slightly toward the P2 for the form factor, the extra 100 mAh of battery, and the fact that the button doesn’t fire the device. However, the screen on the G2 is great, and if you prefer stick-style pod vapes, it’s one of the best out there. It really just depends on your preferences. Both are great devices with excellent pods, and you can’t go wrong with either.

I started doing reviews at the end of 2016 bringing a unique amount of data and fair points that has made them grow in popularity. I’m an avid temp control vaper but will vape pretty much any style of vaping. My goal is to bring as much good, fair, and unbiased information to the forefront as I can to aid vapers in making informed decisions to get the best vape for their style. I enjoy helping people really get the most out of their vape and finding their “aha” moment when it all clicks into place.
