Notable Remarks

0.5 ohm coil

Nothing much happening up until 30w but at 30w nice cool vape.

40w: Flavour starting to come through with a few clouds, still a very cool vape
50w: Flavour is much more intense now and cloud production is great
60w: This is my sweet spot! Lovely warm vape full of flavour and great cloud production
70w: Vapour is getting noticeably warmer now but not unbearable. Flavour and clouds are awesome.
80w: A hot vape but still not unbearable, flavour is muted by the heat now, clouds are excellent
90w: Borderline burnt hit, just about vapeable.

0.3 ohm coil

Nothing happening until 40w, at 40w a cool vape with a little flavour coming through

50w: Still a nice cool vape, flavour starting to come through and a few little clouds
60w: Flavour intensifying now and clouds are better, still a cool vape
70w: Vape starting to heat up a little more, flavour is nice and clouds are becoming bigger.
80w: Much better flavour now and clouds are great too!
90w: Flavour is excellent and clouds are awesome too, a lovely warm vape
100w: WOW! This is incredible, great flavour and clouds are brilliant! This is my favourite setting!
110w: Okay maybe I lied! This is one of the best vapes I’ve had from a tank ever!
120w: This is getting silly now, this tank is handling these higher watts like a champ! A warm warm vape but by all means vapeable and flavour is awesome along with great clouds!

I wont bore you with any more wattage settings but I took the 0.3 ohm coil to 160w and not a sign of a burnt hit! Absolutely stellar performance! Although at the higher wattages the vape is very hot, it is far from a burnt hit. But if you prefer cooler vapes I’d suggest sticking around 65-80w however my sweet spot on the 0.3 ohm coil is between 100 and 120w.

As you can see the coils far exceeded the wattage range for them! I was super impressed with this as I didn’t expect the coils to hit their higher wattage ranges, let alone handle 50w above them!

Coils

The coils for the Riptide are fantastic! Whilst they are wicked with organic cotton there is also a nickel mesh that surrounds the wick to aid wicking. This definitely works! I haven’t had a single dry hit on the tank and considering I have vaped the coils well beyond their said wattage ratings I think this is very impressive! If you are one of those flavour chasing vapers I’d suggest the 0.5 ohm coil but if it’s clouds your after you’re going to need that awesome 0.3 ohm coil!

Styling

I really like what Amigo have done with the styling of the Riptide. The fins at the top give it a somewhat menacing look whilst also keeping the tank cooler for longer. The whole tank looks funky sharp but also wouldn’t look out of place in a business meeting, it caters for everyone’s style.

Flavour

The flavour I have been getting from this tank is absolutely awesome! Whilst it may not quite be up there with the likes of the Uwell Crown this tank still pumps out the flavour! I would definitely put this in my top 5 sub ohm tanks in terms of the flavour you get from it! I think this is down to the coils and the nickel mesh and ‘turbo wicking’ technology.

Dislikes

Top Fill

I know this hasn’t been around for that long but nowadays, sub ohm tanks have to offer something special to be considered a top class tank. Unfortunately Amigo didn’t include a top filling capacity with the Riptide. This is such a shame as I haven’t been able to put the tank down recently, well until it comes to filling up that is! I’d love to see a v2 with top fill, that would really improve the tank and it would be one of my go to sub ohm tanks, but because of the inconvenience of filling up, sometimes I have to look past the Riptide.

Build Quality

Although I haven’t had any issues like leakage or the tank not unscrewing etc. the build quality feels a little thin on the ground. The tank feels a bit flimsy and if I were to drop this tank I’d expect to pick it up in a thousand pieces. Unlike tanks like the Uwell Crown and the Smok TFV4 that feel solid and well made the Amigo Riptide just doesn’t quite stack up and leaves something to be desired in the build quality department.

Verdict

Whilst you may not have heard of Amigo before, this tank is most certainly one you should consider! It may not have the beating of the top tier tanks but for me this tank should be in that bracket! The coils really make this tank and the turbo wicking technology is just awesome for stopping burnt hits and allowing this tank to vape up and beyond 160w! Whether you’re looking for your first sub ohm tank or just needing to satisfy your shinyitis, the Amigo Riptide is a tank you should take a good look at! Trust me, you wont regret it.

Thanks for sharing your view on this tank. I’m planning on getting the Amigo kit, which comes with one of these (and also one of each of the two coils as well, I think). I’m new to vaping and am looking to upgrade my Halo to a decent, begginer-ish level sub-Ohm compatible vaping device. I like that it comes in the e-pen style as well, just personal preference I suppose.
I was a little worried that, because it isn’t too pricey compared to some of the others I’ve seen online so far, it would be tacky and inefficient, but those are some really promising results you’ve posted up here and, overall, it seems to me to be a decent choice for a starter-outer like myself.
Thanks for the recommendations on coil types as well – I’m definitely after the flavour more than the vapour so this is useful as well.
    Thanks again.
