Innokin Coolfire IV Intro
In this article we take a look at the new Coolfire IV box mod by Innokin.
The Coolfire IV is a really sexy little box mod capable of 40W, with a 2000mAh battery that is able to fire down to 0.2ohm. It has a very sleek and quality design to it and is completely unique in its looks for a “box mod”. The Coolfire IV has lovely curves, smooth edges and an ergonomic design, which completely moves away the standard “box” look we have become accustomed to on these type of devices.
A big thanks George at Innokin for sending us this device for review and an extra one for a future giveaway!

How to use the Innokin Coolfire IV
The Coolfire IV is very easy to use and easy to navigate.
- To turn the device on and off, you can either use the manual switch at the bottom of the device or hit the power button 3 times.
- To switch to wattage mode hit the power button and up button simultaneously. To switch to voltage mode hit the power button and down button simultaneously.
- To see how many puffs you have done, hit the up and down buttons simultaneously.
- To switch the screen orientation, hit the up and down buttons and hold for about 3 seconds.
- To adjust the wattage or voltage first hold down the plus or minus to unlock the screen and then adjust it once unlocked.
The outside of the box states that the minimum resistance is 0.3ohm, but inside the manual it actually states that the Coolfire IV can fire down to 0.2ohm. I can testify to this and our Coolfire 4 did fire down to 0.2ohm.
I think the battery life is pretty good on the Coolfire IV being a 2000mAh battery. For a comparison the iStick 30W is 2200mAh. The Coolfire IV will last you a good day of heavyish vaping on a 0.5ohm coil. Higher resistance builds and more moderate vaping will mean that the battery should last a couple of days. The battery capacity for the size of the mod is pretty good, but I would have loved to have seen an extra 500-1000mAh next time! It is neither a positive nor a negative hence I have talked about it here.
You can charge the battery through the USB pass through charger and it takes a few hours to fully charge.
The Innokin Coolfire IV fires from 6-40W, which is pretty decent. I would have loved to see it fire slightly higher, to perhaps 60W, but I think the Coolfire IV is aimed toward those who like to vape at lower wattages, which is fine.
Power Button Colors
The power button will light up different colors depending on the battery life left. Green means almost fully charged, yellow half power and red means low power!
Super Sexy Design
My brother and I just love the aesthetics of this device. It comes in some really nice different colors as well. We have the red Coolfire IV and absolutely love it. As mentioned earlier, it almost doesn’t look like a box mod anymore because of its ergonomic design and sleek curves. It fits fantastically in your hand and is the same sort of size as the iStick 50W. However, due to its sleek design it feels lot smaller and definitely feels like a much higher quality device than the rather plasticky iStick 50W.
This was one of the biggest positives with this mini box mod. The brushed aluminum finish on the outside feels great and really high quality. I tried one of the pre-production Coolfire 4s, at the Vaporfair in Frankfurt and at the time the plus and minus buttons rattled. This has been addressed and I am very happy to say they no longer rattle, which really helps add to the quality feel of this device. The buttons click very nicely and the screen shows you all the info you need (albeit is slightly on the small side!).
Spring Loaded Pin
The Coolfire IV features a nice spring loaded pin, which means all of your tanks will fit very nice and flush onto the device. The threading is stainless steel and is buttery smooth when attaching a tank onto it. The Coolfire IV kit also comes with an ego adapter, which is a nice touch for those who want to use an ego style clearomizer.
Manual On/Off Switch
I really like that the Coolfire IV comes with a manual on and off switch on the bottom of the device. I haven’t seen this on any devices and I like it. You can also turn off the device by hitting the power button 3 times.
Innokin have had some notoriously high priced products in the past, but the Coolfire IV in my opinion is a great deal at around $37.99. I think if you are after a 30-40W device then the Coolfire IV is an absolute steal, as you won’t be getting this type of quality for this price from another brand!
This wasn’t an issue for me, as fortunately my eyesight is still pretty good, but for those less fortunate, this might be an issue! The screen could therefore be a bit bigger, as currently it is very small.
I said above that the 2000mAh battery on the Coolfire IV wasn’t really a positive or negative, however I have changed my mind and think it is a slight negative. The Coolfire IV isn’t that much smaller than the iStick 50W, so I think they could manage a battery with a bigger battery capacity.
Despite it looking like you can remove the battery, from looking at the bottom of the device, it is in fact non removable. I personally would have liked a removable 18650 battery on this device as I like to charge my batteries in a proper Nitecore charger and be able to swap them out to make sure I can carry on vaping.
We absolutely loved the Coolfire IV and its awesome looks and quality build. I think for once the Coolfire brand has really lived up to its name and produced a really “cool” looking device that performs well. The brushed aluminium finish feels great and the device sits perfectly in your hand. I would have liked a removable 18650 battery in the Coolfire and a slightly larger screen, but apart from that there isn’t anything to complain about with this device at all. We love the Coolfire IV and for $37.99, I think it’s a great price for what is a fantastic 40W box mod. It is a great box mod for beginners and also those who want to be using the full 40Ws and firing down to the lower resistances.
If you are looking for a 30-40W device then I wouldn’t hesitate to get the Coolfire IV.
