Kanger Subtank Mini Intro

In this article we take a look at the Kangertech Subtank Mini. This is middle sized tank in the Subtank family and features a 4.5ml tank. A lot of people were complaining (us included) about the size of the larger normal Subtank, so the mini represents a smaller option that is similar in size to the style clouds from a clearomizer Aspire Atlantis. Whereas the normal Subtank was very top heavy and didn’t fit nicely (overlaps etc) on mech mods and mini box mods, the Subtank Mini fits perfectly.

Notable Remarks

How does the Kanger Subtank Mini differ from the normal larger Subtank?

Kanger Subtank/Mini/Nano

The Subtank mini is a lot smaller than the bigger Subtank. It is 22mm in diameter, compared to 25mm on the normal Subtank. This might not sound like a big difference, but trust me it’s makes all the difference. My issue I had with the standard Subtank was that it was very top heavy and that it didn’t fit nicely on mech mods and mini box mods (it overlapped slightly). Well the new 22mm diameter means that it sits flushly on my mech mod as well as looking stunning on any mini box mod! As it is that little bit smaller overall, it is quite a bit lighter as well, which means it has a much nicer weight balance when sitting on different devices. It is similar now to the Aspire Atlantis in size and weight.

Functionality and Performance

The best part about the Subtank Mini is that it hasn’t lost any of the great performance from its larger brother. In fact I would go as far as to say that on the RBA the performance has improved (will go into details later). They have managed to keep the same great performance whilst taking on board customer feedback, to make it smaller and lighter. The new 4.5ml sized tank, is for me absolutely perfect – not too big and enough for a good few hours of vaping. The clouds are just as ridiculous as the larger Subtank as well and the flavor is amazing. I would say though, that the vapor is slightly warmer than on the larger tank (not uncomfortably so, but some may not like it). The tank does seem to get quite warm as well, warmer than its larger brother. All in all Kanger have managed to actually make a smaller tank that performs even better!

Kit Accessories

So not only does the Mini have the same awesome performance as its older brother, it also comes with all the same great accessories that made the Subtank kit so great. The Subtank mini comes with two OCC coils (1.2ohm and 0.5ohm) and also comes with an RBA. Note the RBA on the Mini cannot be interchanged with the normal subtank as the RBA is a new and improved version!

I thought that by Kanger making the subtank smaller that it would lose some of its performance, but it has in fact managed to get even better! Kanger have adjusted the RBA and changed the build deck completely. The pre-installed coil is bigger than the old coils and it is now easier to thread new coils onto the deck. Kanger have also managed to somehow improve the airflow on the RBA, whilst at the same time fitting it in a smaller tank! The chimney is larger allowing for more airflow. Another great improvement is that when switching between the OCC coils and the RBA you do not need to remove the top of the tank and unscrew it as you did with the larger subtank. The chimney coming down from the top of the tank is now wider and fits both the OCCs and the RBA, making the whole tank even easier to use!

Overview of the improvements on the Subtank Mini over the normal Subtank

  • Smaller diameter: 22mm instead 25mm, which means it fits nicely on mech mods and mini box mods
  • Lighter in weight, so not as top heavy
  • Improved airflow options allow for a better mouth to lung setting
  • Improved RBA build deck and coils as well as bigger air flow
  • RBA and OCC coils can be interchanged more easily without having to unscrew the roof of the tank
  • RBA and OCC coils both now can use the amount of e-liquid in the tank
  • Kit also comes with a replacement pyrex glass
  • Same awesome clouds and flavour!

Verdict

The fact that this kit has the same amazing performance as the larger Subtank and yet comes in a smaller better looking tank is crazy. Kanger have really listened to their customers and have made some great little improvements on the Mini, such as the improved air flow and build deck on the RBA.

This kit comes with all the same awesome accessories and different coils as the larger kit does. It even now comes with an additional pyrex glass which the larger one doesn’t.

I think this tank is far superior to the larger Subtank due to its smaller size and improved airflow options, as well as now being able to switch between the RBA and OCCs much more easily. For me personally there would be no reason to choose the bigger Subtank. If you are after a larger tank with more e-liquid capacity then perhaps the larger one is for you. The 4.5ml capacity is more than enough for me and I love how the Mini Subtank sits on my mech and mini box mods – stunning! The fact that the clouds are just as good as the larger tank as well, shows how incredible this tank really is. This is a must have for subohm vapers and for those who want a normal glassomizer tank with the possibility of moving up towards the RBA from the OCC coils.

The Aspire Atlantis has some stiff competition in this tank, as the Subtank Mini offers a lot more versatility and is the same size as the Atlantis but with a bigger tank capacity (4.5ml vs 2.5ml).

If you are unsure if you should get the Aspire Atlantis or the Kanger Subtank Mini.

The Kanger mini was my first choice after moving up from a pen vape. I got the subbox combo with the battery and tank. First week it was great, I loved the flavor and the clouds I was getting out of it. But after a week I started getting a burnt taste and losing flavor. I purchased some new OCC coils for it and afterward had nothing but problems. I’m not sure if it was due to lack of experience or if i got a pack of bad coils but I had no flavor and all kinds of leakage but… Read more »
