Product intro and specs

The VAPORESSO XROS PRO is the latest and most advanced addition to the popular XROS line of pod vapes. At a distance, it looks like the previous stick-style XROS versions, but when you see and hold one, you realize quickly that it’s on another level. Of course, it’s got that signature VAPORESSO build quality and design, but the XROS PRO is just beyond the others.

It’s made with the hobbyist vaper in mind, looking for a compact and powerful pod vape for an RDL experience. A few of its standout features are three power modes (normal, eco, and adjustable wattage up to 30 watts), a serious battery capacity of 1200 mAh, a quick charge that truly is quick (under 35 minutes), and a physical locking switch to disable the fire button from accidentally being engaged.

What’s more, the XROS PRO introduces the much-anticipated 0.4-ohm RDL pods, although these are only available in certain regions (more info in the note below.)

What it shares with other XROS devices is adjustable airflow, a USB-C charge port, and button or draw-activation. It also runs on the AXON chip, which powers their patented COREX Heating Tech coils inside the pods. However, it should be noted that the new 0.4-ohm pods can only be used with the XROS PRO—if you can get your hands on them, that is.

Price: $31.99 (at Element Vape)
Colors: Black, silver, blue, orange, pink, red, green

Note

NOTE: VAPORESSO asked us to explain that the 0.6/1.0-ohm, 2 mL version will be sold in the United States and Germany, and the 0.4-ohm, 2 mL version will be sold in the UK. That's a bit confusing since the devices I received came with 0.4-ohm 3 mL pods, and there's no reason to limit pods to 2 mL in the U.S.

In any case, know that if you buy the XROS PRO using our links, as things stand you will be receiving the version that comes with the 0.6 and 1.0-ohm pods, probably in 2 mL. If you want more info on the performance of these pods, you can read our XROS 3 review.

Build quality and design

The XROS PRO is a really well-made device. Vaporesso is flexing with this one. It feels like a high-end gadget, but even better. I'd go so far as to say that the XROS PRO feels medical grade. The tolerances, fit, and finish are stellar.

The device is also visually appealing. There are times I find myself just looking at it. I got several of the colors and like the “red” the most. It’s more like a subdued red, just as the rest of the colors have that same mature kind of coloring.

The finish has this polished but brushed aluminum feeling that is smooth but not slippery. The front panel is more glossy and a bit of a finger magnet, though. You may not notice it, but that front panel hides a stealth OLED screen. The digital readout appears as if it’s coming from inside the metal. Unfortunately, the readout is not as clear as my aging eyes need. Still, it’s a nice touch and a solid device to have in your hand.

But the XROS PRO is heavier than devices like it! It's veering closer to the feeling of an AIO. Although it looks like the first three versions at first, there is a noticeable size difference. It stands at 24.4 mm x 18.45 mm x 119.7 mm and weighs 86 grams. You wouldn't want to drop this device on your foot. For comparison's sake, the XROS 3 measures 23.6 mm x 13.7 mm x 115.1 mm and weighs only 45.7 grams. The PRO is nearly 2x the weight of the XROS 3!

Lastly, the XROS has two switches and a button. The button is nice and clicky, and it has that micro-ribbed circular pattern that’s always a nice touch (literally.) The switches are the airflow switch (located on the back) and a locking switch that allows you to quickly turn off the button functionality while still being able to use it with the automatic draw. Both the airflow and locking switch have nice and firm tolerances.

As for the pods, they’re still the same great XROS pods that feature that awesome breakaway top fill. They are easy to fill and leak-free, and the mouthpiece is comfortable. The pods that come with the U.S. version of the device are 2 mL for some mysterious reason, but you can get larger pods for some resistances if you buy replacements.

Getting started

With the XROS PRO, it’s assumed the basics of filling a pod are well in your wheelhouse. I say that because it’s the “pro” version, so it’s best not to begin with this device.

As for the OLED interface, there are effectively four functions, each with a different number of clicks of the button to activate or access.

  • On/off: 5 clicks
  • Mode selector/wattage adjustment: 3 clicks
  • Puff counter clear: 4 clicks
  • LED indicator light off: 2 clicks

Shout out to VAPORESSO for letting us turn off the battery light indicator! And the switch lock makes it so you don’t inadvertently turn the lights back on (or burn out a pod in your pocket).

Power modes

With the XROS PRO, there are three modes that can be used: eco, normal power, and adjustable wattage. Eco mode saves battery, and normal power mode features VAPORESSO’s Super Pulse technology, which is meant to deliver consistent power until the battery dies.

However, the adjustable wattage can only be used with the 0.4-ohm pod. I don’t have any other XROS pods, so I can’t speak on using other modes. Those modes aren’t selectable unless you have the necessary resistances. In my situation, it’s the reverse of the first reviewers of the XROS PRO who had the other pods, but not the 0.4-ohm. They could only use eco and normal power modes. I can only use adjustable wattage mode. Not that I’m unhappy about that.

To change the wattage between 15 and 30, you have to use the single-button interface. it round-robins, but it stops at 30 for longer than I’d like (minor pet peeve). It moves in 0.5 increments and speeds up the longer you hold it.

Performance

Wow. The 0.4-ohm pods are great. Clear and unadulterated flavor. They’re consistent, too. I have been using 70 VG juice, with the airflow holes all the way open, for a lovely RDL draw. It doesn’t work so well when I shut down the airflow holes and try and do an MTL. But I also wouldn’t put high nicotine in these pods. They’re made for low-nicotine juice and don’t mind being pushed a little.

That said, I like to keep the wattage around 16.5. Maybe I’m just getting older and don’t need all that extra power? Either way, you don’t have to push more power if you don’t want. But regardless of how much power you push, they still love to guzzle juice. I tried to keep a tally of refills, but somewhere after seven, I lost count. That was a few days ago, and I’ve refilled them a few times a day since.

The bottom line is that the 0.4-ohm XROS pods are what the whole device is about. But the problem here is that there's no info on if and when these pods are going to be available in the U.S. market.

Given that they are the best RDL pods of the XROS line, and they are also unlocking the adjustable wattage feature, I hope VAPORESSO will release them in the U.S. at some point. If not, I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading from previous XROS versions, to be honest.

Battery life and charging

The battery life on the XROS PRO is substantial. Its 1200 mAh battery will last easily for two days of moderate vaping. I do like the security of the battery’s capacity to keep me from having to consider it after just a day of vaping. But when you do need to charge it, it won’t take long. The fast charge is for real! I’ve tried several devices that claim to have a fast charge, and it's usually not that noticeable. On the XROS PRO, I clocked a full charge at 33 minutes. For such a big battery, that’s impressive!

Verdict

The XROS PRO is a great device. But if you already have an XROS device and are happy with it, I don’t necessarily think you need to get one of these—especially if you are still a beginner vaper or only vape in MTL.

But if you’re the type of vaper that perks up when you hear “0.4-ohm,” I’d say the whole kit is worth it, even if you already have another XROS. The features like the locking switch, fast charge, and extra battery capacity would make it a solid buy, but with those new coils…it’s a great buy.

The question is, will U.S. vapers have access to the 0.4-ohm pods? As things stand, I'm not sure. But I will update this review if I get a clear answer from VAPORESSO.

Highly recommended for RDL vaping—just check that you can get the 0.4-ohm pods in your region.
