    Clearomizers and E-Cig Tanks Explained

    What is a Clearomizer?

If you are new to vaping, then there are many confusing words to learn, like “clearomizer”. This term is actually a culmination of two words. Clear and atomizer. An atomizer is a device that heats liquid to create vapor, and is called a clearomizer, simply because they are clear.

A clearomizer is usually the next step up from cigalikes and open the door to the world of e-cig tanks. One great advantage to using a clearomizer tank is the ability to choose the many different flavors that are available such as strawberry cream, french toast, or even popcorn.

The first clearomizers were found on eGo-style pens, such as the CE4. It used silica wicks and was the gold standard for a while. Although this is not the best atomizer, it is the one that got many people off cigarettes. Imagine how much easier it would be with a better e-cig tank!

    What is Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) Vaping?

Mouth-to-Lung, or MTL e-cig tanks were found at the onset of vaping and had a purpose, which was to help simulate the experience of a cigarette. MTL tanks have a tighter draw and require a two-step inhalation process. MTL tanks are not geared for gigantic clouds.

MTL e-cig tanks were becoming endangered at some point but are not yet extinct. Many companies realized that they were missing out on a huge portion of the market and since then have revisited making products geared towards Mouth-to-Lung vaping.

A common misconception about Mouth-to-Lung vaping is that they are only for new vapers. Although suitable for beginners and transitioning smokers, MTL vaping is a preference. Many vapers are satisfied with this method over the other popular style.

Another important thing to note about Mouth-to-Lung tanks is that they typically do better with e-liquids that are thinner in viscosity. For this reason, it is recommended that you use e-liquid that is no more than a 60/40 ratio of VG to PG.

Wait, Then What Is a 'Sub Ohm' Clearomizer?

When clearomizers were created, there was no such thing as a “sub ohm tank“. In fact, this was almost like an oxymoron. Sub ohming was reserved for RDAs and mechanical mods simply because there were no devices or e-cig tanks at the time that could handle it.

In 2015, we saw a boom of sub ohm tanks hitting the market. Often times you will hear somebody refer to them as “sub ohm clearomizers”. However, when we use the term clearomizers we are typically just referring to e-cig tanks suitable for Mouth-to-Lung vaping.

Why Would You Buy A Clearomizer?

Clearomizers are great for people who want an inexpensive MTL vape that allows them to use any e-liquid they want, unlike cigalikes and “closed-systems”, where choices are scarce.. Clearos can be great for beginners, or a stealthy option for experienced vapers.
