SMOK Vape Pen 22 Review

We take a look at the SMOK Vape Pen 22 a simple pen shaped vape aimed at beginners.

SMOK Vape Pen 22 Intro

Vaping hardware comes in a wide array of products to accommodate every different approach to vaping. At one end are the advanced power vapers, with high power box mods, sophisticated temperature control, and sub-ohm tanks with exotic coils. At the other end are simple eGo kits designed for beginning vapers.

Over the past year or two, manufacturers have begun designing and marketing all-in-one “starter kits” that combine elements from both of these very different worlds. The SMOK Vape Pen 22 is one such product. It is a 22mm diameter eGo-style battery with a capacity of 1650mAh that delivers fixed voltage (3.7 to 4.2 volts, depending on how much the battery has been drained). Unlike a typical eGo battery, however, the vape pen has a tank whose base is built into the cylindrical battery. Also, it comes with two sub-ohm (0.3Ω) dual-core (meaning dual-coil) atomizer heads that screw into the base. A glass tank section fits over that, held by an o-ring, and a top cap with drip tip screws onto the atomizer head to complete the assembly.

So, the SMOK Vape Pen is designed both for beginners and also for any vaper who wants a stealth set-up that provides a good, full sub-ohm vaping experience from a simple, small, easy-to-use package.

What are typically called “Vape Pens” have been associated with the dry herb and wax segment of the vaping community. While SMOK uses the same term, this Vape Pen is designed to use regular e-liquid.

Notable Remarks

The SMOK Vape Pen is remarkably simple in both design and operation. It has no display screen, no adjustment buttons, and no removable atomizer or tank. Screw on the atomizer head to the battery tube, fit the glass tank over the head, fill with eliquid, and screw on the top cap.

Press the fire button five times to turn the Vape Pen on or off, press and hold the fire button to vape. That’s it. All the expected safety protections are built into the regulating chip. When the battery drains down, which will take awhile with 1650mAh, recharge it with the included microUSB cord. What could be simpler?

The question is: Does the Vape Pen provide a good enough vaping experience to win over beginning vapers, but also keep more experienced vapers happy? The answer to both questions is YES.

The technology of vaping hardware has come a long way since the days of a 3.2 volt eGo battery topped with a 510 tube atomizer or Stardust CE4 tank. The Vape Pen’s fixed LiPo battery is substantial and provides enough current to power the 0.3 ohm dual-core sub-ohm atomizer head easily and effectively. Users won’t win any monster cloud competitions, but vapor production is ample, and the flavor is even better.

It’s hard to criticize a product that provides both simplicity and performance.

  • Moderate Price
  • Good Performance
  • Compact size
  • Simplicity and ease of use
  • Straightforward top fill
  • Battery life

  • Non-removable battery (microUSB charging only)
  • Fixed wide-bore drip tip (no user selected drip tips)
  • Top fill can be a bit messy (need kleenex to wipe tank and hands)

The SMOK Vape Pen is similar in concept to SMOK’s Stick One Basic and Plus starter kits, but the Vape Pen is even simpler, since the tank base is built into the battery. Although that ultimate simplicity leaves the Vape Pen a limited, niche market, it should please those who want the easiest route to vaping pleasure.

Hi. I posted a comment but it was omitted. Just to say that even thought the Vape Pen 22 has generally received good reviews, and I’m tempted to get one, some have said you have to be careful when refilling because sometimes the coil attaches to the top when you open it and causes leakage.

    • santi

It sucks. I have it and it always leaks because of the design.

I here this too and it actually happened to me once. But it’s such an easy fix that I don’t understand why people are even talking about it. When you tighten down your coil just make sure you tighten it real well. Then when you go to put the lid on the glass you just barely tighten it. It doesn’t need to be real tight for the liquid to stay in trust me it will be fine. Tighten it just enough and you will have NO problems. It is just common sense people! I am not talking to you by the way. I am talking to the others who actually have a vape pen and keep having this problem. I have 2 of them and love them and like I said it happened once to me and I figured it out. Never happened again. 🙂

I have mine! Works great folr beginners and its also a great -on the go- vape to carry around. Havent had any issues yet.

Anyone know of a good site to order the glass tube for my Smok vape pen 22?

    • Ellen Alicia Jordan Scusa

There are only a few sites out there that sell actual vape pen 22 tubes. I don’t know them on the top of my head except for one but I could look into my stuff for the others if you still need it? I bought a three pack for $9.99 from KMG Wholesales online. I can’t remember if they sell them with only one or not. I bought only one from another place before so there are places that do. However, what I do sometimes is just get the SMOK TFV8 Baby beast replacement glass. They fit fine. There are others too that can be used in place of. Let me know if you want to know. Hope this helps.

We bought one of these yesterday. I’ve been vaping for years now, but we wanted something with a more powerful battery. We had purchased CBD oil online and were eagerly anticipating a nice vaping session. Absolutely gutted with the experience.

A huge amount of the e-juice leaked out both airflow holes when vaping. These holes are beneath the orange washer. This morning the e-juice is right down to the bottom of the see through glass container. I will be going back to the shop we purchased this in to get a refund.

CBD e-juice is not cheap which makes it even more frustrating. Perhaps it was a dodgy coil or maybe it’s just a crap pen. I don’t know, but if this is happening and it’s a reoccurring theme throughout reviews, I would give the 22 a wide birth

Why isn’t my smok pen 22 isn’t charging up would you know

  • cedrics

I have found that basic 510 drip tips do fit into the bore if the mouthpiece is too large. Others may fit as well.

I need help my smok pen 22 isn’t charging up

    • Ellen Alicia Jordan Scusa

O.K. I am having this problem right now too, Jami. I have had mine now for several months so I know how to use it. Like for example it has to be on to charge. Click it five times to turn it on and then charge it. Have you tried that Jami? This happened to me sooo that’s why I ask. So, I go to charge it like always and the red light turns on for about 5 seconds and then shuts off! I have tried other usb cords etc. You know the usual when you try and figure something out. My other vape devices work on the same cable just fine. And of course since it works with a usb you can’t replace the battery. So, is it finished!? Just throw it away and buy a new one? 🙁 I don’t have the cash right now. And I havn’t had it all that long. It’s still within warranty. But when I try to find help with the warranty thing I am ignored. Any advise?
