Poll of Vapers Indicates 53% Support Democratic Candidates

More than a third also think Donald Trump is the "most supportive" of vaping

    2016 Presidential Election USA

Vapers believe Donald Trump is the presidential candidate “most supportive” of vaping, according to a recent poll. Among those polled, 36 percent rated Trump the best, closely followed by Hillary Clinton at 28 percent, then Bernie Sanders at 18 percent, Ted Cruz at 12 percent and John Kasich at 6 percent.

The poll was conducted by e-cig manufacturer V2. According to a story in CSPnet, V2 questioned 600 vapers on subjects related to vaping and the fall election. The sample size of the poll probably makes its accuracy questionable, but the results are interesting nonetheless.

    Why Trump?

Why do most vapers think Trump would be sympathetic to our cause? That’s hard to say, but V2 marketing vice president Adam Kustin speculated in a statement quoted in the CSPnet article.  “Trump is in favor of fewer government regulations in most areas, and vapers are worried about e-cigarette regulations.”

Trump hasn’t made any statements or issued policy proposals on vapor products or the FDA’s proposed deeming regulations. None of the candidates have, although Kasich as governor of Ohio has supported a crippling taxation proposal on vapor products in his state.

While vapers believe Trump would be the most supportive, the majority still plan to vote for Clinton. Among those polled, 31 percent support the former Secretary of State, while 23 percent are on board for Trump, and 22 percent for Sanders. The other Republican candidates were far behind, with Cruz at 6 and Kasich at 5 percent. Fourteen percent of the polled vapers indicated they would support third-party candidates.

The breakdown of party affiliation among the vapers surveyed may be more interesting than their presidential preferences.

Twenty-seven percent of vapers described themselves as politically independent, more than identified as Republican (24 percent). But vaping Democrats make up the largest political bloc at 38 percent.

To Kustin, that makes sense. “Similar to our data, previous research has found that most smokers are Democrats. Since vapers are former smokers, it only makes sense that the political group most likely to smoke is also the most likely to vape.”

Officially or otherwise, Vaping360 is politically neutral.  We do not endorse candidates.

Smokers created vaping without any help from the tobacco industry or anti-smoking crusaders, and vapers have the right to keep innovating to help themselves.
