Vapmodtech Dragoo Review: Vape Pen in a Little Boxy Body

Product intro and specs

The Dragoo by Vapmod tech is a lightweight and pocket-sized little 510 thread battery for THC cartridges. The mod incorporates a non-removable 650 mAh battery that powers 4 wattage adjustments, from 2.8 V to 4.0 V. The Dragoo takes 510-thread carts of 11 mm in diameter. The cart sits deeply inside the mod, only revealing the mouthpiece. If you’re interested in a cheap and effective little mod to replace those unreliable vape pens, keep reading and see if the Dragoo is for you.

Build quality and design

The first thing that jumps out about the Dragoo is the look. It has a mixture of chrome, black plastic, and it comes in a wide variety of built-in non-replaceable panels. Some of the panels are real resin, others have graphic images printed on them, and others have 3D holograms.

There’s not a lot to this device. It’s a small little box mod that’s comfortable to hold and easy to store in a pocket. It’s small enough to fit in a fifth pocket of jeans. Or, you can wear it around your neck with the included lanyard. Normally I’m not a fan of device like this and lanyards, but it’s so small and lightweight that a lanyard for the Dragoo works.

The Dragoo weighs ~65 g and its dimensions are 14.80 mm x 34.40 mm x 57.00 mm. The device features a clicky fire button that also adjusts the voltage, and it’s got a built in 650 mAh battery. The voltage readyout is in a colored LED display that’s easy to see in any light. The Dragoo comes with a magnetic 510 adapter and a 510-ring, that threads onto your cart before dropping into the mod. Once in the mod, the cart is automatically connected to the battery. Unfortuntatley, there’s a little wiggle room when your cart is in. The Dragoo accepts carts of 11 mm, but they’re not snug enough even though they won’t accidentally fall out the device.

Operations:

  • 5-click of the fire button to power on/off
  • 2-click of the fire button to access 10-second pre-heat
  • 1-click to turn off pre-heat
  • 3-click of the fire button to toggle through voltages
  • Selectable voltage from 2.8 V, 3.2 V, 3.6 V. 4.0 V
  • Various battery protections

Performance

The Vapmod Dragoo doesn’t come with cartridges, but you can buy them seperately or just use your own. No matter which cartridge you use, the performance will be basically the same. With the Dragoo mod, the voltages all feel adequately powered, with no setting feeling too far under or too far over. I’m not certain if the device is truly regulated or not, but when I have my Dragoo set at 3.6 V, I don’t ever feel the need to change it. I tried 4.0V, but it was a bit too hot for the resistance of my cart and it tainted the flavor.

In general, the mod performs well. I used the pre-heat once, but it’s not the ideal circumstances. It works best if your cart is truly cold, not just in a sleeping state. I’d probably find that function most useful if I was outside in the winter. But even still, there’s really no need for pre-heats with carts like there is with flower.

Vapmod sent several of these devices, and I haven’t been able to drain one yet to clock the charge. I can’t be getting high all day! That said, the battery seems to last. I checked and it does have pass-thru charging, so you can use it while it charges. Just plug it up with the included micro USB and into your computer or other devices you use to charge your electronics. When charging, the LED scrolls through the voltage settings, lighting each up with a green light. When the battery is done charging, the lights will all be gree.

Pros / Cons

  • Small size
  • Lightweight
  • Magnetic 510-adapter
  • Nicely done aesthetics
  • Click fire button
  • Four voltage settings
  • Pass-thru charging
  • Cart has too much wiggle room

Verdict

If you’re looking for a solid device to replace your vape pen, the Dragoo is a good option. It’s not as slender as a vape pen obviously, but it’s still compact and discreet. The Dragoo has the features you’d expect, with a few more. The pre-heat function may work well in the winter, but it’s not necessary. You could always just hold the button yourself. Still, there’s nothing wrong with this device aside from the little wiggle room in the cartirdge housing. I can live with it since the carts are still held in rather firmly.

If you’re thinking about getting a Dragoo, go ahead. It’ll do the trick. There’s nothing to prevent me from recommending it.

I’m a pretty happy customer about it. The battery holds a charge for quite a while and the unit fits just right in your pocket without feeling boxy or uncomfortable. The fire button on the side helps from accidental presses while stored, too. The price wasn’t too bad, either.

I ordered 6. All showed up flat black no chrome. All are the 3-D units. D-6 is supposed to be some kind of rainbow chrome. But it’s flat black too. What you see is not what you get
