Apollo V-Tube 4 Intro

We do a full review on the recently released V-Tube V4.0 by Apollo E-Cigs.

The V-tube 4.0 is a regulated tube mod capable of firing up to 50W. It also has the capability of being able to fire down to a resistance of 0.2ohm, which makes it a perfect combo for use with a sub ohm tank. I think the V-Tube 4 fills an important gap in the market. There are many vapers looking for a tube shaped device not wanting to use a mechanical mod for use with their sub ohm tanks. Sub ohm tanks have become insanely popular this year and not all people like the aesthetics of a box mod.

If this is the case for you then voila the V-Tube 4 is the perfect device for you!

Apollo V-Tube 4.0 with the Phazer Tank
Apollo V-Tube 4.0 with the Phazer Tank

I have to say that I love the looks of this device. It looks like a high class mod and its stainless steel finish is timeless. The screen is a good size and reads very well and buttons are worked effortlessly into the mod.
For those who aren’t interested in the looks of a box mod, then this is a fantastic alternative device that will be able to do the same things a box does, but with different aesthetics.

Build Quality

The V-tube 4 is quite a heavy little tube mod, but the heaviness makes it feel like a really high quality vape mod. You can tell when you hold this mod for the first time that it oozes quality. This doesn’t feel like a device that will break if you drop it a few times. The fire button clicks nicely and so do both the plus and minus buttons.

0.2ohm Resistance & 50Ws of Power

Apollo V-Tube 4.0 Buttons/Pin

I haven’t come across many tube mods that can fire up to 50W and have a low minimum resistance of 0.2ohm. There is definitely a gap in the market here and the Apollo V-Tube 4 definitely fills that gap and does it exceedingly well.

Spring Loaded 510 Pin & Ego Threading

The V-Tube 4 features a copper spring loaded pin, so you won’t have any issues with any tank you put on this mod. We tried a few different sub ohm tanks on this and they all worked without issues.

The V-Tube 4 comes also has an ego threading, so the device can either be used with 510s or your standard ego threaded clearomizers.

Kit Comes with Great Accessories

If you get the V-tube 4 as part of the kit, you get a host of accessories and save a load of money at the same time. If you get the kit, you’ll get a Panasonic 18650 battery, an 18650 battery charging port, a 30ml bottle of delicious Fa-Q e-juice (Miss Samoa and Funky Monkey are two of our favorite e-juices) or Lindbergh E-Juice and a carry case. For $139 (£119) I think this is a really good deal. You also get the Phazer sub ohm tank, which we just reviewed and liked. The Phazer and the V-tube make a great combination!

FREE shipping for US & UK customers, 30 day Money Back Guarantee, and a Limited Lifetime Warranty

If you get the kit you get free shipping from either the UK or US site as well as a handy 30 day money back guarantee, should this not be the device for you. Alongside this you also get a limited lifetime warranty on the device (check what the warranty covers, as I am unsure what the warranty entails).

I think these warranties and free shipping add further value to an already impressive mod.

Safety Features

The V-Tube is a regulated mod and comes with several integral safety features: Short circuit protection, low voltage protection and battery venting holes.

Wattage Scroll on the Screen

Apollo V-Tube 4.0 Screen
Apollo V-Tube 4.0 Screen

You can adjust the wattage in 0.1W increments which is great and I like that. However, the scrolling when going from 6 to 50W takes quite a long time and I think the accelerator could be a bit quicker. Or it would be good if you could carry on going from 50W to 6W with one click. As it is now, you can go up and down, but not back around, which is slightly cumbersome, but by no means a deal breaker.

This device does feature an 18650 battery and we were impressed that it is only 23mm in width. However, I think the height/length of the device could be shortened a tiny bit. Again it’s nothing major and I think it is the ego adapter that makes it slightly longer. I’d like to see the next V-tube a few cm shorter!

I think Apollo have found a gap in the market here and have filled it perfectly with this great looking, solid regulated tube mod. With all the new sub ohm tanks coming onto the market the regulated tube mods haven’t been able to fire low enough or didn’t have enough wattage. The V-Tube 4 has both and can handle most sub ohm tanks and high quality clearomizers without any issues. There really isn’t anything to complain about with this high quality device and we are big fans of it.

If you don’t like box mods and want something that has the tube mod aesthetics but is regulated and can fire down to 0.2ohm then this is the mod for you!

Can you use 2 18630s here? Regarding wattage, I prefer raising voltage than the sub-ohm path…

  • Kaos Mikazuki

what is the best recommended Sub Ohm tank for the Apollo Vtube V4, for maximum cloud output, but also a smooth experience?

    • Hi Kaos. Apollo have their own sub ohm tank called the Phazer, but we haven’t tried it yet (in the post). You can’t go wrong with the Herakles or the Crown by Uwell, they are two of our favorites so far. The battery AMPs and mAh will depend on what coils you use and their resistance. This battery will cover all bases: http://vaping360.com/link/efest-35a-2800-vapordna/

    • Joe

The Phazer tank is excellent for flavor at .5 ohm around 40w! It also doesn’t leak at all. I’ve put 1800+ puffs on the .5 ohm coil at 40w so it will last you too! Try the Funky Monkey flavor, it’s really good. Be careful with the included battery if you use .2 ohm coil max output is 20w and you won’t get much out at all. At 50w the battery got hot and I ceased using it. I’ve ordered some 35A IMR’s from Amazon to be able to use the .2’s…

  • Joe

I own the Vtube 4.0, got it as a kit with the Phazer tank. First let me say that I absolutely love the tank and mod, the flavor with the .5 coil is amazing! My concerns are with the limitations of the included battery.
If you plug in numbers to a calculator… at 50w and .5 ohm you would draw 10 amp. 50w at .2 ohm you draw 15.81 amp! The Panasonic has a max amp draw of 10 amp so you can theoretically blow up the battery with the current kit as is. I did notice some heat down at the bottom with the .2 which isn’t good. I like the .5 at 40w anyway but wanted to get this out there. I also ordered some IMR’s at 35 amp draw so this thing can handle anything!
Feel free to correct me if my math is wrong, just concerned for the folks who don’t calculate and use it as is.

    • Just looked up the data sheet for the Panasonic NCR18650PF battery and you are completely right! How could Apollo miss this? I will be sending an email asap, thanks for the heads up Joe!

Here is the data sheet for the battery:

      1. Minimum Capacity: 2750mAh (0.54A discharge at 20°C)

      2. Typical Capacity: 2900mAh (0.54A discharge at 20°C)

      3. Nominal Voltage: 3.6V

      4. Discharge End Voltage: 2.5V

      5. Standard Charging Current: 1.35A

      6. Charging Voltage: 4.20±0.03V

      7. Standard Charging Time: 4.0hours

      8. Max. Continuous Discharging Current: 10A

      9. Internal Resistance: less than 35mΩ

      10. Weight: less than 47.0g

      • Joe

No problem Alex! I would like to see that info in the review if possible too. I ordered 2 efest IMR’s at 35A max draw from Amazon for $19, would be a good investment for anyone who owns this great device and like me is building various coils (on a dripper) for testing my own liquid concoctions! Otherwise thanks for the excellent review!

        • So I wrote to our contact person at Apollo and this is what he wrote: “The Panasonic 2900PF is fine for use in the VTube even with a 0.2ohm
coil. The internal electronics will ramp up the power delivery and it
does not draw that direct amp current from the battery. This is only a
worry in unregulated devices. Most regulated devices will either limit
the power output as the chip isn’t capable of stepping up the power
output from the battery input power(these will require high amp limit
batteries), or regulate and step up the power output greater than that
of the battery (such as the case with our VTube V4.0) As long as
regulated mods are made properly with the correct battery safety
protections built in, there should be no worry of batteries getting over
worked or melting. The Tube it self will warm up while in use with any
amp limit battery as to be able to output 50W of power the chip inside
has to do quite a bit of work and this is the main reason why most 50W
and up devices are not a tube form factor. In box mods it’s much easier
to have room to dissipate the heat generated from the chip while it is
functioning at higher wattage levels.” – Hope that helps!

    • Using the .2 ohm coil on a 10A battery is really not a good idea. Max wattage to use the 10A battery on a .2 ohm coil is 20W. You should be fine using the .5 ohm coil as it can handle up to 50W on a 10A battery, but still using the .2 ohm coil can be really crazy dangerous!

      • Joe

Right on! This was the purpose of my post, to warn others. The kit does come with a 10A battery AND a .2 ohm coil. Just sayin for safety sake, as there aren’t many reviews out here…

  • JD Scott

What do you think about using a Herakles on the V4.0?

  • Ryan Cope

I just bought the Vtube 5.0 and im really impressed!!! This baby will blow massive clouds!!! And best of all Ive slowed my cig smoking almost completely and i was a pack a day smoker and had the same pack all week!!!!! That was the thing i tried out a cheapo vape pen a while back and it sucked and i threw it away, anyways recently been looking into it again but didnt want a big box thing to carry around. Once i seen this baby i knew this was the one!! It has that power i was looking for. And im vaping some tabbacco juice from black note and its amazing!!!( if i could ever get my bottle that im waiting on) but i was wondering did apollo do away with the puff counter on the 5.0??? It just seems to have a few lines where the puff counter was suppossed to be. Other than that i love the apollo vtube!!!! Would reccomend to anyone looking to quit smoking or wanting a good vape pen

The buttons keep breaking: 3 units for 3 with dodgy buttons.

Am on my third, having had nothing but poor quality devices. My current one spontaneously locks itself and refuses to come back on. The company claims to have a ‘limited lifetime warranty’, which sounds great, but even though it’s an electrical item less than 12 months old, they tried to refuse to honour the statutory warranty unless I’ve bought something from their site recently. Bit of a racket if you ask me.

First unit was replaced no questions asked. Second unit broke 7 months later, but they didn’t want to replace it because it was more than 6 months old. The statutory minimum regulations should be 12 months, but they weren’t having this. Eventually they did offer to upgrade me from the v3 to v4 for £20, but I really shouldn’t have had to pay anything to return a defective unit. Now on my third unit, the button has broken again. D:

I can’t be arsed to argue with their customer service over this any more and have no confidence that any replacement they might send will actually be any better, so I’m swapping brands.
