Mesh might be making a comeback

Veteran vapers may recall a brief period a few years ago when “mesh wicks” made their first appearance. Although it has been a while since “mesh” was the buzzword of the day; since being reimagined as a heating element, it is once again making the rounds.

Vandy Vape has the distinction of being the first manufacturer to incorporate mesh into an RTA. A brave choice for a new brand given the mixed feelings around “mesh” in general, but it is this unconventional approach to design that has been driving their success.

The first ever “mesh compatible” RTA!

The Mesh RTA is a 24 mm diameter unit that sits at an average height of 39 mm. And as the name suggests, it is designed to be mesh compatible.

Airflow hits the mesh wire directly, with top airflow inlets pulling the air down and onto the installed mesh element. This top airflow placement is a necessity as it is a choice, with bottom AFC increasing the likelihood of leaks. And with mesh coils potentially presenting a few challenges to builders, at least some effort has been made to minimize this pesky problem.

Using a step-shaped pyrex glass that comes included with the kit, the TPD compliant 2 mL eliquid tank can be adapted to a larger 4 mL reservoir if desired. Moreover, the addition of a slide-out top cap – a design feature made popular by SMOK – makes refilling the tank easy and fuss free.

Added extras include a resin, ultem and delrin doc drip tip as well as a 510 drip tip adapter for those who prefer smaller mouthpieces. Two varieties of stainless steel mesh are included as well – rated to 0.37 and 0.43 Ohms – and promising amazing flavor and vapor outputs.

One of the more intriguing releases to date, the Mesh RTA could either mark the beginning of a new era in tank atomizers and a major win for Vandy Vape. What’s your opinion on the re-emergence of “mesh” within the industry?

A marketing manager by day and an avid reader – and vaper – by night, I came into the vape scene almost by accident and have never looked back. You will find me in sunny South Africa where I am mostly always curled up on the couch with a good book and a fruity vape. At other times, I am known to indulge my unhealthy obsession with musical theatre and live comedy shows, in that order.

VANDY VAPE IS NOT THE FIRST COMPANY THAT USE MESH AS A HEATING ELEMENT.TAIFUN RELEASED TAIFUN BT WHICH IS THE FIRST RTA THAT USES MESH,ALTHOUGH ITS A BIT EXPENSIVE BUT GREAT TO ALL.DESPITE THIS WE MUST CONGRATS VANDY VAPE FOR PRODUCTING SUCH A PRODUCT IN SUCH A LOW PRICE.WELLDONE VANDY VAPE!!

The Taifun BT is great, but just like the old genesis atomisers, if you tilt it it just leaks all over. Plus filling it isn’t the best (had to dig out my old needle fillers from genesis days).

If this is anything close to the BT in terms of flavour and vapour I will be in heaven

        Mark Allen totally agree!

The Taifun BT is not an RTA it is an RDTA , an RTA is identical to a modern tank coils beneath juice level, where as an RDTA has the coil(s) above the tank section and the wicks drooping into the tank. It was also insanely expensive and seen often w/ mesh wicks as well as mesh heating. Id say this looks to be the first mesh RTA to come out.
