What is in a nicotine free vape (disposables & e-juice)?

E-juice is a blend of vegetable glycerin (VG,) propylene glycol (PG,) nicotine, and flavorings (including sweeteners). That goes for e-juice bought in a bottle, as well as e-juice used to fill disposables or prefilled pods.

What makes a vape nicotine-free is the absence of nicotine from the vape juice it contains. So, a nicotine-free juice contains the exact same ingredients as nicotine juice, minus the nicotine.

In fact, the only ingredient in vape juice that is absolutely required is VG, since high amounts of PG will most certainly cause a flooded coil and a leaky vape. Nicotine-free juice may contain a blend of VG, PG, and flavorings, may just be VG and flavorings, or even plain VG.

In disposables, a nicotine-free device will usually contain a 50/50 VG/PG blend and flavorings—although there are some unflavored disposables on the market.

Imagine trying to tell your wife that you really have quit nicotine, but she reads the bold disclaimer on your e-liquid.

Setting aside isolated cases of mislabeling and manufacturing mishaps, which can happen in every industry, non-nicotine e-juice is not made from tobacco and does not contain nicotine. Therefore, it’s not chemically addictive, no matter what type of spin is put on it.

Do nicotine-free vapes give you a buzz?

Zero nicotine vapes won’t give you a buzz. A buzz from vaping is a result of nicotine, so no matter how much zero nicotine juice you vape, you will not feel lightheaded.

Do zero nicotine vapes have throat hit?

Nicotine can be felt when you vape it. Not only can you feel nicotine in your head and body, but you can also feel it when it hits your throat. It’s called “throat hit.” It’s a sensation like a thump to the throat or hit to the chest. While many vapers love that feeling and can’t vape without it, some don’t like it. Nicotine-free vape juice is smooth and barely felt when going down. The user can enjoy the flavor, warmth, and still blow out clouds, but without the nicotine sensation tickling and irritating the throat.

The lack of nicotine takes most of the throat hit away, but even nicotine-free vapes can have a tiny bit of throat hit, usually those with a tight cigarette-like draw (MTL) and a propylene glycol content higher than 50%.

Should you get a 0 nicotine disposable or a refillable vape?

Two main factors to consider here: ease of use versus money spent. A disposable vape is by far the most beginner-friendly vape you can get. In most cases, you just need to throw away the packaging and you can start vaping. But the cost of disposable vapes is high, in some cases not very far from the cost of cigarettes.

Zero nicotine vape juice that can be used in refillable vapes (such as pod vapes, or sub ohm tanks) is generally much cheaper, and can often be found at a discount. If you want to save money, and don’t mind going the extra step with refilling and setting up your device, then zero nicotine vape juice is the way to go.
