MigVapor Matrix Review

MigVapor Matrix Intro

Since I started doing these type of reviews for portable herbal vapes, we have seen an influx of new products hit the market. Eventually, you start to get déjà vu when looking at these devices because at some point they all become a blur. The Matrix is MigVapor’s take on a design that has been floating around for a while. If you saw our review on the VaporFi Stratus, then you will realize how similar these products really are. However, there is one major difference and that is the fact that the chamber is not only removable, but also made of ceramic. Included with the kit is a spare chamber that is set up for wax/concentrates, making this a two-in-one device. The main question here is how much does that ceramic cup affect the performance and vapor production? Please hold that thought as we enter the Matrix...

Notable Remarks

MigVapor Matrix Red

Almost identical to the Stratus that we reviewed, this device is mostly constructed of plastic. It has that nice rubbery coating and is super lightweight. It can be concealed easily in the hand or pocket. The size makes it a good vaporizer to travel with and take just about anywhere. One of the main differences between this one and the Stratus by VaporFi is of course the MigVapor logo in white. The Matrix is available in white, red and black. The screen is nice and bright and the buttons light up blue or red when the battery is low. You also have a battery meter which is a useful feature. It isn’t always easy to remember when you last charged it, especially when you are in the Matrix, if you know what I mean.

Vapor Quality

It turns out that the ceramic cup had a positive impact on not only flavor but vapor production. I am getting tasty hits and good-sized clouds, especially for an herbal vape. This is what makes the Matrix a win, for those looking for an inexpensive portable unit. If you want to spend half the price of a Pax and still get a quality vape, I would probably look into the Matrix. Here is a heads up, for whatever reason, I noticed the ceramic chamber needs to be broken in. You will not get the biggest clouds at first, but after the first few sessions you are golden. I would also recommend packing the herb loosely so air can travel through the chamber. On the highest setting, the vapor can be a little bit harsh but you will get some impressive clouds. On the low and medium settings you will get great flavor and some decent vapor cloudage. The draw on this thing is actually very nice and airy which is something I look for in a vape.

Build Quality

MigVapor Matrix Colors

Although constructed from mostly plastic, it seems to be built pretty tough. The mouthpiece on mine became pretty loose, probably my fault but fortunately they sell spares. Other than that, I haven’t really had any issues with this device, it does its job real well. Overall, the quality of this unit is decent for a product in this price range but what really makes the Matrix stand out from the rest is the performance of that replaceable ceramic cup. Besides that, it is pretty much identical to every other vape that looks just like it in terms of quality, but you are also getting a 90-day warranty through MigVapor when you purchase it so that’s an added plus.

The heat-up time is actually rather quick. Cleaning is also very easy, you just dump your herb out then brush out your chamber and mouthpiece. The chamber will eventually need to taken apart and cleaned, which is fairly easy to do since each piece comes out. It’s light weight makes it easy to carry with you and is small enough to be stored in an eyeglass pouch. USB charging also adds to the convenience of this product, and the battery life is good for a bunch of sessions before having to recharge. The Matrix also has an auto-shutoff function which goes off after about five minutes. Another important thing to note is the fact that you have full control over the temperature spectrum. You can start at 300 degrees Fahrenheit, or crank it all the way up to 428. At the highest setting you will be blowing out some massive vapor clouds.

The Matrix is quite efficient. I am able to get a good 9-10 draws out of a small amount of material. The ceramic chamber heats up nicely and tends to vape your herb consistently, which was a huge problem I was having with the MiVape.

The chamber is rather large, capable of holding .8 grams, but you can pack it half way and still get a nice session, which is another advantage of having the ceramic cup. The heat is evenly distributed from top to bottom, so no herb will get wasted. According to MigVapor, their testing has proven the ceramic chamber to produce 25% more vapor. The ceramic cup is definitely a big win in my book.

For the price, this is one of the best portable vape pens you are going to get. I don’t know how it will compare to future portable vaporizers but MigVapor definitely set a new standard in flavor and vapor production with this one. There are vapes for double the price do not feature a ceramic chamber or even vaporize flower the way that this one does. As far as performance is concerned, this is definitely the best vape in its price range that I have tried as of yet.

Update: This vape is definitely up there with the latest Grenco vaporizer called the GPen Elite, which goes for around the same price. Both are great portables.

  • Nice airy draw
  • Super lightweight
  • Good size
  • Adjustable Temperature
  • Swappable ceramic cup produces great vapor and flavor

  • Can’t disable auto-shutoff
  • No pass-through charging function
  • Plastic components

Overall there were very few things that I could actually call cons for this device. One of them was the material: plastic. However, if they had made it out of another material, it probably wouldn’t be as cheap. For that reason, the Matrix is a winner due to its performance, compared to the other vaporizers in its class. This is a step-up from your $100 vape pen, that only has three temperature settings and a steel heating chamber versus a ceramic one. That extra fifty bucks, in this case, will actually go a long way to improve your experience which is well worth it in my opinion. If you are still looking for a good portable herbal vaporizer for about $100-$150, then I would recommend taking the “green pill” and entering the Matrix.
