Vype: A Former British American Tobacco Vape Brand Rebranded as Vuse

Vype was an electronic cigarette brand developed by British American Tobacco (BAT), one of the world’s largest tobacco companies. Launched in the UK in 2013 through BAT’s subsidiary Nicoventures, Vype marked the company’s entry into the rapidly growing vape sector. It offered closed-system devices and prefilled cartridges with a focus on regulatory compliance, product safety, and wide accessibility. Vype was positioned as a science-backed alternative to smoking, supported by BAT’s in-house research labs and adherence to evolving EU and UK regulations.

In 2021, BAT phased out the Vype brand globally and rebranded it under the Vuse name to unify its vaping portfolio. This strategic consolidation aligned with BAT’s corporate vision of a “smoke-free future” and allowed the company to streamline marketing across international markets. Today, former Vype products—like the ePod and ePen—are sold under the Vuse label, which now dominates BAT’s vapor category and continues to expand in both Western and emerging markets.
