Recently, Minoa Biotech announced a blockbuster technology called Soft Salt, which can reduce the irritation of nicotine buccal products by more than 70%.
According to relevant research by Minoa, the burning sensation of nicotine buccal products does not come from nicotine itself, but from the interaction between the acetylcholine nerve and the TRP channel during the human metabolic process of nicotine. The generation of the burning sensation results from the activation of the vanillic acid receptor of the TRP v1 channel. The functional group of capsaicin is the -CONH amide group. After being metabolized by cytochrome P450 cells, nicotine is oxidized to form cotinine, and a -CONH amide group functional group is formed on the pyrrole ring of cotinine. In the case of the activation of the cholinergic nerve, the amide group of cotinine determines the duration of the activation of the TRP channel.
This discovery explains why arecoline, which is also a cholinergic agonist and contains a pyridine ring, does not cause a burning sensation in the oral cavity when acting directly, and also explains why the burning sensation of nicotine products lasts longer than the metabolic half-life of nicotine.
Through the application of the Soft Salt technology to compete for TRP receptors and block pain signals, it can significantly reduce the discomfort and irritation caused by nicotine products, and also reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
The latest batch of products applying the Soft Salt technology will release at the 2025 Champs Trade Shows (Booth#3261) in February.
