Product intro and specs
The Geekvape Sonder Q2 is one of the latest pod systems by Geekvape and is marketed as an entry-level affordable pod system and an alternative to disposable vapes. Geekvape has a long-standing tradition of making great devices, and while the Sonder Q2 isn’t going to be the most innovative product out there, it’s poised to be a solid, reliable, and affordable device to help people kick the habit of smoking or save money from buying disposables.
I reviewed the Sonder Q about a year and a half ago, and the Q2 is cross-compatible with all the coils of the original while also boasting some upgrades. They increased the max wattage from 25 to 30, the battery is now listed at 1350 mAh, they upgraded the chassis from plastic to aluminum alloy, and made the LED more flashy.
The Sonder Q2 is made for MTL to restricted DL vaping. The pods are refillable and come with built-in coils; however, according to their website they will eventually sell pre-filled pods.
Price: $9.99 (at VapeSourcing)

Build quality and design
The Geekvape Sonder Q2 is your basic stick-styled pod system, in the shape made popular by the JUUL and Caliburn. It’s not a tiny device, but it’s pretty easy to pocket. It’s also very basic to be affordable, so there's nothing fancy on it. There is an LED for the battery meter and adjustable airflow. Outside of that, there are no buttons or settings or anything.
They offer a total of ten colors. I got the olive green one, which sports a nice matte finish that doesn't hold fingerprints. The Sonder logo is big on the front and textured but doesn't peel off. The “O” in the Sonder is the LED, which lights up like a rotating rainbow when vaping. If the battery is low, it’ll also light up red after the rainbow lights. Otherwise, after the rainbow lights, it turns off. Overall, the design is simple yet functional, which is the ideal when it comes to beginner-friendly vapes.
Getting started
The Geekvape Sonder Q2 is a basic/beginner pod system that can be used by anyone. It’s marketed to beginners and people who use disposables, and it is meant to be affordable and extremely simple. It’s an inhale-to-fire system with no buttons, modes, or settings outside of the airflow adjustment, which allows you to go from an MTL vape to an RDL vape.
The Q2 is cross-compatible with all the Q pods, and there are two styles of pods for it. One style is the top fill which features a pop-off top and has a 2 mL capacity, and the other is the side fill style which comes with a rubber plug on the side for refilling and a 3 mL capacity. The pod that comes with the device is a side-fill pod. Both types can be refilled without removing the pod, which is great. The side-fill pod is a little tinted but fully exposed, so it is easy to see the juice level; still, I prefer clear and fully exposed.
Overall, I'm very happy with the usage, as it’s just a very basic fill, charge, and vape device with nothing else to worry about.
Performance
The Geekvape Sonder Q2 is fully compatible with all the Q pods. That gives a lot of variety.
There are three top-fill 2 mL pods:
- 0.6-ohm (8-25 watts)
- 0.8 ohm (12-18 watts)
- 1.2-ohm (8-12 watts)
And four side-fill 3 mL pods:
- 0.4-ohm (25-30 watts)
- 0.6-ohm (18-25 watts)
- 0.8-ohm (12-18 watts)
- 1.2-ohm (8-12 watts)
The Sonder Q only comes with the 0.8-ohm side-fill 3 mL pod. There's no other pod in the box—Geekvape has been doing this for a while with its more affordable devices, but it's always better to include two pods. I’ve used quite a few Q pods in the past, and they’ve always been good. I haven’t used the new side-fill style yet, though. Thankfully, I’ve found that the 0.8-ohm pods tend to be the best ones for most pod systems.
I liked using the 0.8-ohm pod with the air from half to fully open, which ranges from a loose MTL to an RDL vape. Flavor was great, and the 3 mL capacity is a good fit for this device. The coil also lasted a long time; I was easily able to vape a 30 mL bottle with the coil still being good. Overall, it is an excellent pod, and I am very happy with its performance.
Battery life and charging
The internal battery is listed at 1350 mAh, up from the listed 1000 mAh of the original Sonder Q. But I have to note that according to my testing, the original Sonder Q actually had 1000 mAh usable, which is rare. Most of the time, the usable capacity is about 80% of the listed, so for the Q2 I expected around 1080 mAh and got 1120 mAh. So a good rating overall, and about 10% more usable battery than the original Sonder Q.
I found a listed charge rate of 1A. The original Sonder Q had a max charge rate of .74A and a charge time of 85 minutes. In comparison, the Sonder Q2 has a max charge rate of 1.02A and a charge time of 70 mins. The 70 minutes is a little long, but considering it’s made to be bare bones and affordable, and it's still close to the 60-minute charge time most affordable pods have, it’s not too bad.
Overall, I am very happy with the battery specs, charge rate, and listed specs, and it's nice to see the improvement across the board.
