Product intro and specs

The DOJO Sphere X 40k is a disposable vape featuring the world's first 360° surround screen. What purpose does that serve on a disposable vape? The surround screen, which showcases manufacturing prowess, functions mostly on an aesthetic level. Wrapping around the device, there’s an intergalactic light display when you take a hit.

As for the actual vape features, the DOJO Sphere X features a hearty 1100 mAh battery, 20 mL e-liquid capacity, a quad mesh coil, two power modes (power and eco), and a menu of 13 flavors in 5% nicotine.

With its impressive screen and quad mesh coil, the DOJO Sphere X seems to tick all the boxes. But the thing about a disposable vape, is that it's not just a device; it's also e-liquid. No matter how well a disposable performs, you'll have to like the taste if you're going to get another. Let's get to it and see how the DOJO Sphere X fares.

Price: $16.99 (at Vape Sourcing)
Flavors: Berry blast triad, blue star, fresh berry orange, fresh splash, frozen grapefruit, grape mojo, Hawaii dream, Miami mint, pink lemonade, strawberry slam dunk, tropical bomb, watermelon ice, wintergreen mint

Size, look, and feel

This is the area where the DOJO Sphere X shines. The build quality, hand feel, and overall aesthetic are great. The Sphere X comes in all glossy black, with only a subtle hint of color over the branded front panel that suggests the flavor. Setting aside the light display (which I’ll get to shortly), this is the type of aesthetic I've been wanting for disposables.

The Sphere X is about the size of the GeekBar Pulse X, which makes sense when I see what I just typed. It’s not a small disposable, yet it feels extremely comfortable in the hand while still being compact enough to fit normally in a pocket.

Light display (360° surround screen): It's well-executed and fun to look at. You see the same intergalactic display in both modes, featuring blue stars and an astronaut on the back. In Power mode, there's an additional graphic of a planet's outline on the front of the device, and a galaxy graphic appears on the back in the upper right-hand corner.

The problem I have with the light display is that (as far as I can tell) you can't turn it off. I think this is a mistake on their part. I love that the device is so mature and stealthy looking when it's idle. And while I like the display, it emits far too much light at night. If you awaken in the middle of the night and take a vape, the light will hurt your eyes! It’s absurd. Maybe they could’ve had a night mode where the light was red since that’s supposed to be easier on sleepy eyes. Off would be ideal, though.

Getting started

Vaping360 placeholder image

As with most disposables, the DOJO Sphere X is ready to vape. Just remove it from its package. There's a little switch on the bottom of the devices that adjusts the power mode.

First position: Off

Second position: Eco (normal power; two small airflow holes)

Third position: Power (boosted power; three small airflow holes)

Similar to the GeekBar Pulse, the different power modes have built-in airflow that changes with the selection. However, when I'm hitting it, I get a loose MTL in Eco and a loose MTL in Power mode. There's more air coming in for the Power mode, but it doesn't quite reach the airflow necessary to achieve a restricted lung hit. Think of the third position as a loose(r) MTL.

Smart screen (front panel): Battery life is indicated up top (with a lightning bolt icon); juice levels are toward the bottom (with the droplet icon). Both indicators are in a numerical percentage.

How does it hit?

Vaping360 placeholder image

The Sphere X has an immediate hit that is both warm and flavorful… and that's just in Eco mode. With the Power mode, it's a bit north of warm and quite intense. Normally, I'd feel most at home in Power mode, but the Eco mode for the Sphere X is plenty. I'd even go so far as to say that the Power mode is too much for me for a loose MTL.

I think the intensity of the Power mode hit comes down to the quad mesh coil. It's no joke! If you like an aggressive and intense hit, the Power mode will be your friend. The wild part for me is that half the time, even when I think I'm in Power mode, I check it, and it's actually in Eco. Frequently, when I'm testing disposables with two power modes, the Eco mode is the throwaway mode, and the Power mode is where the devices shine. With the Sphere X, I think Eco mode is the best setting. That's a plus for the consumer because Eco mode will give you the longest run times for battery life and e-liquid consumption while being no slouch for flavor and vapor.

As an aside, there have been no issues with juice in the mouth, gurgling, or leaking. It's been a while since I've had any of those issues with a disposable, but it's still worth mentioning.

Are the flavors any good?

I've tried five of the Sphere X flavors. Tropical bomb and watermelon ice are easily my favorites, gauging by the remaining juice levels. Here's my list in order of preference:

Tropical bomb: The sweetest and most flavorful of the bunch. It tastes of tropical fruit like the name suggests, but there's something intoxicating about the mixture that keeps me coming back for more. Medium level of cooling.

Watermelon ice: A typical watermelon flavor with a perfect amount of sweetness that's not too much or too little. It only has a modest amount of cooling, despite being an "ice" flavor, but it's easy to enjoy.

Miami mint: The same trio of mints that we're used to, but with less of the sweet spearmint flavor. It falls a bit flat for me. There's a heavier dose of cooling in this one, obviously due to the mint trio.

Blue star: A super tart rendition of blue razz. If you're into the more acidic side of blue razz, you'll probably like this one. I prefer some sweetness to balance out that tartness. Moderate level of coolness.

Pink lemonade: Aromatic and easily identifiable as pink lemonade. It's just a bit too sour for me, though. Like with blue star, I'd prefer more sweetness to balance out the sour notes. Moderately cool.

How long does it last?

As with all disposables with different power modes, the life span of the liquid and the running time of the battery per charge will vary. In Eco mode, I'm impressed with how long the battery lasts. For the purposes of testing, the Eco mode has lasted me a couple of days of heavy vaping while trying to get the battery drained. Once it was time to charge, there was still 81% liquid remaining, according to the indicator. I tried to vape in Power mode until the battery was drained, but it was too much for me to continue. Ironically, the battery and liquid depletion were taking longer than Eco mode simply because I vaped it a lot less.

What I find to be most impressive is that the peak flavor performance lasts down to 10%. That’s around the first time I noticed any drop-off in flavor.

As for charging, the Sphere X has a relatively fast charge. I got a 50% charge in 25 minutes, and a full charge in about 40 minutes.

Verdict

When it comes to performance, the Sphere X shines. The vape quality in Eco mode feels as powerful as other disposables in boosted power mode. Don’t forget: where other disposables have a dual coil, the Sphere X utilizes a quad mesh coil. Although it’s too intense for me to use casually, it’s a nice option for the occasional blast-off.

The issues I have with the device are that the lights are too bright (and can’t be turned off), and a few of the flavors are missing some much-needed sweetness. I haven’t tried enough of the flavors (only 5 out of 13) to say if that lack of sweetness is with more than just the three lacking in my set. But, I’m willing to chalk up my cons to my subjective tastes.

Even though I’m not a fan of the light display, the flavor from tropical bomb and watermelon ice is good enough that I’d order them for personal use.
