Why Are So Many Vapers Angry With VOOPOO?

Spyros Papamichail
The highly anticipated Vandy Vape Pulse BF 80W will not house the VOOPOO Gene chip as expected. Reviewer Tony B – who is also the product's designer – just announced this upcoming change in an emotional YouTube video. Tony, who also designed the Pulse 22, Pulse 24 and the Pulse BF box mod, is accusing VOOPOO of purposefully delaying the manufacturing of the Pulse while at the same time preparing their own regulated squonk box.

The story, at least from Tony’s perspective, goes like this: Vandy Vape had been preparing its own proprietary chip for a regulated edition of the Pulse BF since last year. Tony B liked the chip but proposed that Vandy Vape could try sourcing VOOPOO ’s Gene chip instead, even if it meant a slightly higher production cost. Negotiations started, the two companies agreed on a deal for a shipment of initial 40,000 chips and set a delivery date around the Chinese New Year (mid-February), giving Tony and Vandy Vape the green light for mentioning the Gene chip in promotional material.

According to Tony, instead of delivering the chips as promised, VOOPOO started escalating the costs and delaying the manufacturing process while at the same time secretly working at their own Gene powered regulated squonk box. A couple of days ago and long after pre-orders had started rolling, VOOPOO backed off the deal completely, claiming that the Pulse design resembled VOOPOO 's own design of the Drag mod and leaving the Pulse in limbo.

Instead of cancelling the project as VOOPOO reportedly proposed, Vandy Vape and Tony have decided to fast-track the process of fitting their own chip in the Pulse BF 80W — even if that meant kissing off one of the biggest selling points of the device.

A lot of reviewers have been showing their support for Tony B on their social media accounts, with many calling for a boycott of VOOPOO due to its business practices. Vaping Bogan went as far as to even break a VOOPOO Drag on camera. At the same time, VOOPOO’s Instagram account has been bombarded with the #boycottvoopoo hashtag from angry fans.

Tony B ensured everyone that the Pulse BF 80W with the Vandy Vape chip will be released soon and that vendors will be refunding the price difference to customers who pre-ordered the squonk box.

VOOPOO released an official statement in response to the allegations today on its website:

"Dear friends, and partners In light of recent events regarding some personal attacks on our company, we would like to take this moment to clarify on some of the issues raised. First and foremost, we have no long term contract with the alleged accuser from (November 2017- March 11 2018). There is no project contract. All the statements made in the accuser’s video are absolutely false. There is no evidence from the accuser to support his claims. We encourage the accuser to present any alleged facts to further support his claims. Secondly, The accuser’s brand has yet to receive an official license that would allow permission for use of the GENE CHIP. The accuser has been promoting his product without our authorization of use of GENE CHIP. Since November - March we made every effort to cooperate with the accuser. During that time we only made a minor price adjustment from our initial offer due to a substantial price increase of raw materials (the average price of global capacitor resistors is twice higher by 20% to 50%) The price increase for the the GENE CHIP is 4RMB which converts to USD 0.625. A fraction of the normal market fluctuations. There is no reason to raise the price by 30% and to make any other increase by 15%, as the accuser claims. Further, no reason for us to delay any production. If the accuser wishes to contact us directly, we welcome a conversation with open arms in an effort to cease any further dilemma, or feel free to contact the relevant brand. Furthermore, VOOPOO has always adhered that the vape is an industry of embracing positive attitude for long standing relationships among colleagues, partners, and customers. Lastly, we were in great standing with the brand the accuser is associated with before this incident. We always encourage to maintain a great relationship with those we partner for the development of the vape industry. We are incredibly saddened to learn about these false accusations and hope to expedite a quick resolution. We are willing to bear all legal responsibility for the authenticity of all above stated accusations. This statement has the basis for legal action, while retaining all legal rights to trace vilification of VOOPOO."
