The NJOY Ace is a compact beginner vape that hits similar to a cigarette… without the smell of burning tobacco. And it’s virtually foolproof. It’s easy to use, even for the most non-tech minded among us.
The Ace design is a one-step pod system. The pods hold the nicotine liquid that gets inserted into the battery, and it uses an automatic draw without any buttons or complicated menus to navigate. And there are four different flavor pods to choose from: Classic Tobacco, Cool Menthol, Blueberry, and Watermelon Twist. Each pod contains 1.9 mL of vape liquid, and 5.0% nicotine. The nicotine amount is similar to the popular JUUL, yet the pods contain more than twice the amount of vape juice.
Right now, the NJOY Ace is on promotion and being sold at an incredibly low introductory price.
Price: $7.99 (for the device), $9.99 (for a pack of two pods)
Compared to many similar vapes, the NJOY Ace feels like a premium device. But it’s priced super competitively. It hits like a cigarette, but it doesn’t look like one. It barely looks like a vape! Although the Ace has no buttons, it might be mistaken for some sort of miniature clicker or like a smart key fob. Either way, you could probably leave it out on your desk without any eyebrows raised.
Each Ace is black and grey. The black is a hard and glossy plastic, and the grey parts are soft-touch finger pads on the front and back. It’s easy to grip and comfortable to hit. It’s larger and heavier than the JUUL, but it’s got a bigger battery for longer run times. It’s a tradeoff. That said, the Ace is still a discreet and stealthy vape. Its flattened and oval-like shape is concealable in most adult hands.
The complete Ace measures approximately 3.5” x 1.1” x 0.5” and it weighs a tad over two ounces. At only 3.5” tall, the Ace is not very big at all, but it’s not so small that it’ll be easy to lose.
The Ace comes in a branded corrugated box, not flimsy cardboard. Inside it, you’ll find your Ace battery and a micro-USB charge cord. But you have to buy flavor pods at the time of purchase, or you’ll just have the battery.
The magnetic flavor pods come in packs of two and cost $9.99 for the pack. Pop one out of the package and remove the rubber plugs from the bottom and top of the pod. Those are there to prevent any possible leaking from the pods in transit. The pods won’t accidentally slip out, but personally I’d prefer them to be held in bit stronger
You won’t have to designate a whole afternoon to reading an instruction manual! It’s totally uncomplicated.
That’s it. Vapor is made as you draw on it. The Ace has what’s called an automatic-draw, which means there’s a chip inside the device that turns it on when it senses you drawing on it. It’s immediate. Once you stop drawing on it, it goes into sleep mode until you puff again.
The NJOY Ace has a mild to strong hit. The pods only come in one nicotine strength though. 5% nicotine may seem fairly high, but it’s the industry standard for quit-smoking vapes. The hit of nicotine in the Ace is not harsh, but you won’t have to guess if you’re getting your nicotine. You’ll feel it! If at first you get a headrush, similar to a morning cigarette, take it easy until you get used to it.
The temperature of the Ace vapor is warm enough to feel good, but not so much so that it is uncomfortable. I’d say it’s right at the point where cool turns to warm instead of warm on its way to hot!
The vapor it makes is about the same size of smoke that a cigarette makes. It’s not going to fog up a room and cause a scene. It’s a good enough amount to satisfy your eyes and feel familiar. But if you want to take even smaller hits, to cause little to no vapor, you can hold in the vapor and blow out even less. That adds to the discreetness of the device.
In a word, yes! The flavors are good. A couple I like more than others, but that’s because of my personal tastes. None of the flavors are off-putting or have loud aromas like smoke.
Blueberry: This flavor has the unmistakable taste and smell of blueberry, but it’s closer to an artificial blueberry taste than actual blueberries. I think it’s okay, but one of the Co-Founders of Vaping360 considers it to be his favorite of the bunch.
Cool Menthol: If you are/were a menthol smoker, you’re in luck! Cool Menthol has the cooling feeling that only a menthol smoker can appreciate. It’s not aggressively cold on the throat, but it undeniably menthol.
Classic Tobacco: I really like this flavor. It’s got a slightly sweet and nutty taste, which is actually close to the smell of a fresh pack of cigarettes. But since nothing is burning, don’t expect to taste a cigarette.
Watermelon Twist: This is my favorite flavor. I barely thought I would like it though. Watermelon Twist has a bright and refreshing flavor that kinda tastes like watermelon, but not really. Either way, it’s clean and crisp. It actually tastes slightly more tart than sweet. It’s got a faint aroma that’s quite pleasant.
Although this kind of device is meant more for giving a satisfying hit of nicotine, you still should enjoy the taste if you want to continue using it. I think most people will be able to find at least one flavor that they’d like. Pick what you think would work best, but consider my experience to help guide you.
Although your Ace should arrive completely charged, it’s a good idea to top it off first. Simply insert the micro-USB into the bottom of the Ace, and plug it into your computer like you would any other electronic device. It has pass-thru charging which means you can use it while it’s plugged in.
Depending on how much you use the Ace, you could get anywhere from a day to a day and a half of usage. Of course, if you’re a light smoker and you only plan on using the Ace every once in a while, you could get several days out of charge. Charging it takes under an hour.
NJOY is a trusted brand in this industry. They’ve been around practically since the beginning of vaping. With that type of longevity, they also are equipped to take care of their customers.
Although I write reviews, I’ve purchased this device (a few of them) with my own money for personal use. One time I bought a couple Ace pod packs from NJOY online, and they all kept tasting burnt. I called 1.833.ASK.NJOY as a customer, not as a reviewer. I didn’t even tell them that I reviewed! I explained the problem and they took care of me. They sent out free replacements without any hassle. Those pods worked perfectly.
You can’t get that type of customer care and service when you buy off-brand vapes from a gas station! Although I’d like the quality control to be better, it’s nice to know that the customer will be taken care of. So if you’re Ace isn’t performing like how it should, let them make it right. From my experience, they will.
If you are trying to kick cigarettes and you want to feel a solid nicotine hit, the Ace can give you that. It’s obviously larger than a cigarette and it’s going to taste different (thank goodness!), but I think it’s a good choice for trying out vaping.
Factoring in the build quality, ease of use, satisfying nicotine hit, customer service, and especially the price, I’m comfortable recommending this device for anyone struggling to kick cigarettes, but I do wish NJOY’s quality control for the pods was better. That said, for only $7.99 for the battery device, it’s a good buy. Just remember, you have to also buy pods, which are $9.99 per pack.
