Product intro and specs
I’m always excited when a new dual-battery box mod hits the market. Eight to nine years ago, it felt like a weekly occurrence, but releases have become much less frequent lately. Thankfully, a few companies are still keeping the high-powered vaping scene alive. The VAPORESSO ARMOUR OCTA is the latest example—an equally stylish and rugged device with up to 220 watts of power.
The OCTA and 2025’s ARMOUR ULTRA clearly belong to the same family, sharing similar durability ratings and design cues. Both kits also include the same tank—the reliable iTank T. However, the OCTA’s replaceable battery format (dual-18650) and extra muscle will be big incentives for high-wattage vapers.
With recent releases like the DRAG 6 and Aegis Legend 5, the ARMOUR OCTA faces stiff competition. Is it the best box mod of 2026? Maybe, but it has one major flaw that may be a deal-breaker for some. Keep reading to learn more.

Build quality and design
The ARMOUR OCTA is an absolute stunner. Unlike 2023’s ARMOUR MAX, it doesn’t look overly rugged, as if designed for construction workers and outdoor enthusiasts. It’s just a timeless box mod shape, complemented by a hefty dose of VAPORESSO style. The materials feel high quality, and the fit and finish are excellent overall. The only exceptions are two visible seams in the chassis, indicating a two-piece construction. They don’t align perfectly, resulting in minor gaps.
Appearances aside, the OCTA is one of the most durable mods VAPORESSO has ever built:
- IP68 and IP69K ratings cover dust protection, water immersion, and high-pressure hot-water jets.
- MIL-STD-810H drop resistance, with testing from 1.2 meters across 26 orientations, plus a scratch-resistant coating.
- Anti-collision pads (mod) and a TPU cover (tank) help protect from impacts.
The 0.96” color screen is practically identical to the ULTRA’s; however, it is slightly dimmer, even at 100% brightness. Unfortunately, the resistance and puff-count text are still very tiny.
Regarding hand feel, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. The pleather side padding is pillowy soft, the textured front plate adds satisfying tactility, and the firing button has a perfect click. It feels very natural in the hand. It also features one of the best hinged battery doors I’ve ever used. It’s constructed with hard rubber on the outside (impact protection) and soft rubber on the inside (water resistance). There’s no wobble; it’s spring-loaded, and the switch is both firm and recessed to reduce the chance of accidentally opening.
My biggest complaint here is the narrow 510 platform—it’s only about 23.6 mm wide. The included iTank T fits perfectly, thanks to its beveled base, but even a 24 mm atomizer will overhang slightly. It’s an unexpected oversight considering the smaller ULTRA has a 26 mm platform. If you’re a stickler for overhang, you may want to look elsewhere.
Features and functions
You can access most features through the menu, but the ARMOUR OCTA also has a side locking switch. It may be a small detail, but it’s incredibly convenient. Sliding it up locks all of the buttons; sliding it down unlocks them. It’s much simpler than locking and unlocking through multiple clicks.
The AXON 3.0 chip is full-featured; VAPORESSO seems to have covered just about everything. Along with temperature control for Ti, Ni, and SS, it offers three power modes:
- ECO (normal): traditional constant-wattage output.
- PULSE (medium): sustains a consistent vape by regulating the power curve.
- BOOST (high): according to VAPORESSO, it “enhances the stability of continuous power output.”
Separate from power modes, SMART mode automatically sets the recommended wattage for each GTi coil based on its measured resistance. That can lead to mismatches: my 0.4-ohm coil read as 0.46 ohms, so the chip treated it as a 0.5-ohm coil and defaulted to 35 watts instead of the expected 55 watts. This isn’t a device flaw; it’s the result of inconsistent coil resistances.
The ARMOUR OCTA also offers three distinct themes, adjustable display brightness, and an optional battery percentage display. Two additional lock options could also benefit certain users. AUTO LOCK locks the device after three minutes of inactivity, while WATT LOCK locks the up and down buttons only.
Using the VAPORESSO ARMOUR OCTA mod
Once you’re familiar with its capabilities, the ARMOUR OCTA mod is fairly straightforward to use. Still, a few shortcuts can make it even easier. Let’s start with a basic guide:
- Hold to fire or short-press to wake the device
- Three clicks to open the menu
- Four clicks to lock all buttons (you can also use the side-mounted switch)
- Five clicks to power the device on or off
- Hold the firing button and down arrow to toggle SMART mode. A tiny “S” appears above the resistance when enabled.
Most of the time, three clicks will reveal whatever you’re looking for. The main menu includes themes, power modes, SMART mode, wattage lock, and settings. You can find additional options under settings.
To insert or remove batteries, slide the black switch on the bottom of the mod to release the battery door. The correct orientation is marked on both the door and inside the device. When closing, make sure the switch clicks back into place.
I have two criticisms of the overall user experience. As mentioned earlier, the resistance and puff-count text is small, possibly too small for some to read. Also, the menu doesn’t automatically return to the home screen after inactivity—you have to back out manually.
VAPORESSO iTank T tank rundown
The OCTA starter kit includes the VAPORESSO iTank T (dual mesh version). We covered this tank in our ARMOUR ULTRA review, so many of you already know what to expect. But it’s been a while, so let’s run through the basics.
The iTank T features adjustable top airflow, 810 drip tip compatibility, 6 mL capacity, and a sliding top-fill system. While I typically dislike slide-to-fill designs, I have no problems with this particular tank. The sliding cap feels firm enough that it seems unlikely to open accidentally in a pocket. The tank comes fitted with bubble glass, but VAPORESSO also includes a spare straight glass and a TPU tank protector.
A handy—and often overlooked—design feature of the iTank T (and a few other sub ohm tanks) is its chimney cutouts. With the coil positioned correctly, you can see its resistance and recommended wattage through these openings, saving you from removing it to check the specs. The tank is compatible with GTi coils; we’ll discuss their performance in the next section.
Performance
The ARMOUR OCTA and its AXON 3.0 chipset performed as expected, without any major drawbacks. There’s no noticeable firing delay, and the power output feels close to the selected wattage. Using the same 0.11-ohm RDA build, I alternated between a DNA mod and the OCTA (in BOOST mode) at several wattages. The DNA mod felt slightly more powerful at 100 watts, but the difference is probably negligible in everyday use. Both devices also gave very similar resistance readings.
Trying the three power modes back-to-back made my preference clear: BOOST was easily my favorite. To me, it feels like an immediate power boost, which reduces the typical ramp-up time for high-mass coils. ECO mode feels exactly as VAPORESSO describes it: “normal.” PULSE mode provides micro-bursts of power to make the output more consistent. It seems to pulse up and down quickly like a wave; sometimes, you can even feel it.
The iTank T also performed quite well. The kit includes 0.2- and 0.4-ohm GTi coils. I tested both with 70-VG e-liquid; here are my impressions:
0.2-ohm coil (60-75W recommended range): I opted for a dessert e-liquid, as I find the more subtle notes in those profiles really shine at higher wattages. The flavor was fantastic—rich, creamy, and decadent. For me, the sweet spot was around 65W, but you could certainly push it farther. I did notice a slight drop in flavor at the 25 mL mark, but it’s still performing well.
0.4-ohm coil (50-60W recommended range): Switching to a brighter fruit blend, the experience was just as good as with the lower-ohm coil. I’d previously used this liquid in another tank, but it tasted dramatically better in the iTank T. Even at just 50 watts, the performance has been superb.
With either coil, the airflow is incredibly smooth and plentiful. Cloud chasers will not be disappointed, and flavor chasers should be happy too.

Verdict
For the most part, the VAPORESSO ARMOUR OCTA either met or exceeded my expectations. The design is slick, it feels wonderful in the hand, and the AXON 3.0 chipset is both reliable and feature-rich. I love the balance between style and durability; it should appeal to vapers who want a tough device without an overly rugged look. The iTank T, while not new, is a great addition to the kit, and its dual-mesh GTi coils deliver excellent flavor.
The mod has one big setback: a narrow 510 platform. In 2026, all dual-battery box mods should accommodate 25 mm atomizers. Also, subjectively, the visible chassis seams detract from an otherwise flawless design. Lastly, a couple of small interface tweaks would improve the user experience.
Overall, the ARMOUR OCTA is a big win for the high-powered vaping scene. It’s one of my favorite box mods of the year, and if not for the 510 platform, it might have earned the top spot.
Highly recommended as a kit; users pairing it with atomizers 24 mm or wider should expect some overhang.
