The 20700 vape battery started appearing around mid-2017, with mods like the Innokin Oceanus. They have been gaining traction ever since. 20700s give you a lot more vaping time between charges versus 18650 cells, with many of them performing better at higher wattage ranges. Besides vape mods, 20700 batteries are now also being utilized for cordless power tools, flashlights and electric vehicles.
Surprisingly some of the more popular manufacturers like Sony, Samsung and LG don’t have any 20700s for sale yet. Many of the top 20700s are actually rewrapped cells and are often inaccurately rated with exaggerated specs. Always do your research and only buy from credible sources, such as those that are offered on this page.
Ampking provides 20700 cells with huge battery capacity and an impressive 30 amp power output. They have 5-leg top contacts and provide enough power for vaping on variable wattage and mech mods. They are comparable to the IJOY 5-leg and Efest 20700s but the specifications are more accurately depicted on their labels.
Sanyo is a well-known name way beyond the vape industry. They are one of the few original manufacturers of 20700s — they are not re-wrapped cells. The NCR20700B cells give you a ton of battery life, comparable to 26650s. They are best suited for low-wattage vaping, up to 30 watts per cell.
The IJOY 5-leg is a popular choice for 20700s. They perform much better than the previous IJOY 4-leg cells that come standard with their kits. There are more than one 5-leg IJOYs available in the market and they perform at a somewhat different level, so you might have to do some research before you buy.
Efest 20700s are flat-top cells, comparable to the IJOY 5-Leg and Ampking 20700 batteries. While there have been many cases of Efest cells being overrated on the wraps, these are by far the best batteries in the entire Efest catalogue and one of the few cells worth buying in their lineup.
Hohm Tech, known best for their innovative mods, now have a line of batteries. They offer 18650s, 20700s and 21700s. The Sherlock is a 20700 battery geared for vaping up to 75 watts per cell. They perform comparably to the Golisi cells but have slightly less capacity.
Choosing “best batteries” is not something to pick simply based on subjective likes. While our international team of experts and vape enthusiasts use the batteries on our lists, our recommendations and product selection could not have taken place without first going over the data offered by Battery Mooch.
Battery Mooch (or just Mooch) is the vape community’s expert tester of batteries. For a few years now, he’s been supplying the community with in-depth and reliable testing for the majority of batteries used in vaping.
This is not his list of best batteries, though all these batteries have been verified by his battery charts to be worthy of inclusion. Mooch and his highly detailed research can be found on his E-cigarette Forum blog, and also on YouTube and Reddit.
