OXVA SlimStick X

The OXVA SlimStick X is the refillable-pod version of its counterpart, the original SlimStick. Engineered for simplicity, it lacks buttons or a screen, making it easy for inexperienced vapers to transition to a refillable device. It features a 1400 mAh battery, an aluminum alloy body, a cigarette-shaped mouthpiece, and holds 2 mL of e-liquid. Available in six color options.

Product intro and specs

In a highly competitive market like vaping, manufacturers often prioritize innovation, excitement, and creating “the next big thing.” Admittedly, as a hobbyist vaper, I love that! It’s what drives the industry forward. Still, few things earn my respect more than when companies prioritize smokers. With recent releases like the Artio 2 and SlimStick, it’s clear that OXVA is moving in this direction. But there’s still one more piece of the puzzle: a refillable pod vape with smoker-appeal. And that’s where the SlimStick X comes in.

It may not be a groundbreaking product, but it wasn’t intended to be. Like espresso or vanilla ice cream, if done right, no frills are needed. The SlimStick X does have some notable features, though, including a 1400 mAh battery, a simple top-fill system, a cigarette-shaped mouthpiece, and a slim, ergonomic design. Plus, OXVA produces some of the most flavorful pods on the market, which would seem to give it an edge over the competition.

Is it the best refillable pod vape for smokers? Or, as I’m sure many vapers are wondering, is it exclusively for smokers? I’m writing this section of the review shortly after unboxing the device, so I’m as curious as you are. Let’s find out together.

Price: $23.99 (at VapeSourcing)

Build quality and design

OXVA took a “back to basics” approach to the SlimStick X’s style and design, and the execution was near flawless. There are no unique textures or flashy panels; it’s essentially just a slim, unassuming rectangle with minimal branding. The body is a single piece of aluminum alloy with smooth, curved edges. Combined with a soft matte finish (fingerprint-resistant), it’s an absolute delight to hold.

The device’s dimensions also add to its charm. As the name suggests, it’s slim, measuring just 14 mm wide. And at 90 mm in height (not including the mouthpiece), it’s shorter than most pod vapes, albeit wider. Overall, it feels like a hybrid between the popular stick- and square-style designs. It’s a great compromise; the SlimStick X may not be remarkably small, but it’s very portable.

I’m also a big fan of the pods. They sit perfectly in the device, and feature a large rubber plug on top for quick filling. The mouthpiece is particularly interesting: a long, narrow cylinder, reminiscent of a cigarette. It’s extremely comfortable, and I actually prefer it over the typical whistle style. Note that the retail kits will also include a soft silicone sleeve to enhance the mouthfeel if desired. I did not receive any with my samples, but it’s a thoughtful inclusion.

Getting started

The SlimStick X is incredibly intuitive; even a new vaper probably won’t need a manual. Here’s how easy it is to get up and running:

Remove the sticker from the bottom of the pod, open the rubber tab on the top, fill it up, and wait 5-10 minutes for the liquid to saturate. Then insert the pod and inhale. That’s all there is to it! Simplicity at its finest.

There is one thing worth noting, though. The pod only connects in one orientation: with the mouthpiece opposite the e-liquid window. If inserted correctly, you’ll feel a small vibration. If reversed, the haptic feedback won’t kick in, and you’ll see a gap between the pod and the device.

The LED on the device’s side indicates the battery level. It has two stages: green (100% to 20%) and red (20% to 0%). When the battery dies, the LED flashes and the device vibrates. I feel like there’s room for improvement here. First, a three-stage indicator would be far more informative. A green light suggests that you’ve got plenty of run time left, when in reality, it could be as low as 21%. Also, I wish the haptic feedback kicked in at 20% to warn that the battery is getting low.

Performance

OXVA built its reputation on performance; they’re among the most consistent manufacturers in this regard. So, my expectations were especially high for the new SlimStick pods. At the time of writing, only one variant is available: 1.0 ohms, likely a single-mesh coil. And, unfortunately, the kit includes only one pod.

I used two vastly different e-liquids throughout my testing: a fruity-menthol nic salt and a freebase tobacco (both 50/50). And, as usual, OXVA delivered! The flavor is excellent, highlighting both the bright fruit notes and low tobacco notes equally well. It may not be on par with the XLIM and NeXLIM lines, but it feels like part of the same family. As for longevity, both pods have surpassed 18 mL, and the performance has yet to decline.

Despite being non-adjustable, the airflow offers the perfect amount of restriction for my tastes, predominantly leaning toward MTL. The power output is also non-adjustable, but the 1.0-ohm pod provides a fair amount of warmth. In both regards, the SlimStick X is an extremely approachable vape. Still, I’d encourage OXVA to release a lower-resistance pod as well, since many users prefer a more substantial hit.

My main criticism is that e-liquid sometimes accumulates in the mouthpiece and, consequently, ends up in my mouth. Yes, it’s normal for vapes to “mist” your tongue, but this is different. After a few puffs, liquid visibly pools in the mouthpiece, which becomes obvious when I turn the device to the side. Thankfully, the pooling stopped after about three fills. There is still condensation in the mouthpiece, but I’m no longer dripping excess juice onto a napkin.

Battery life and charging

The SlimStick X features a 1400 mAh battery, which is impressive considering the device’s slender frame. I measured the usable capacity at 1139 mAh, so it falls within the expected 80% window. When paired with the 1.0-ohm pod, it delivers ample runtime. I’ve been going through about 6 mL (three fills) per charge, which is usually enough to get me through the day.

The device only offers 1-amp charging, so a full charge takes about 64 minutes. That certainly isn’t fast, but given the charge rate and capacity, it’s what I would expect. And if given the choice between lightning-fast charging and a large battery, I’d choose the latter any day.

Verdict

The SlimStick X is a great example of what an “entry-level vape” should be: simple, affordable, and approachable. These are crucial features for new users who might be intimidated by modern vaping technology. But it also has advantages over other beginner kits. Firstly, the mouthpiece is the shape and width (roughly) of a cigarette, offering a familiar feel. Also, the 1400 mAh battery is impressive considering the slim dimensions. And, of course, the cherry on top is the vape experience, which feels dialed in to appeal to smokers.

As with any device, there are downsides as well. A two-stage battery indicator and 2 mL capacity seem impractical in 2026. And, I hate to do this, but I will always ding a kit for including only a single pod. Initially, my biggest criticism was the pooling of e-liquid in the mouthpiece, but that lessened over time. However, it was a bit annoying at the start.

At the end of the day, I would absolutely recommend this kit. Yes, primarily for transitioning smokers, but not exclusively. It’s also a decent option for current vapers looking for a budget-friendly device. Just note that the hit isn’t as punchy or warm as many other pod vapes. Still, all-day battery life, solid performance, and it can get lost in your pocket—there’s a lot to love here!
